Toolset allows you to add custom post types, custom fields, and custom taxonomies to your site. This sets up the structure of your custom site.

Example

In our example, we want to build a directory site about gyms:

  • We create a custom post type called “Gyms”, so each gym is a custom post.
  • We create custom fields for gyms, so for each gym, we can add information like the opening hours, address, and gym photo.
  • We create a custom taxonomy called “Gym Type”, so that we can categorize gyms by what they specialize in.

How-to steps

If you haven’t already done so, first install the Toolset Types plugin (see how to install Toolset plugins).

Once Types is installed, go to Toolset Dashboard.

From here, you can set up new custom post types, custom fields, and custom taxonomies. If your theme or other plugin comes with its own custom post types, Toolset will allow you to add fields and taxonomy to it. However, you will not be able to modify the settings of that custom type.
