This site was built some years ago using Astra Theme, Elementor and Toolset. It has worked fine with only occasional small problems.

However, since 15th April, much of the design in Elementor is broken. The only update that I can see on that day was the update to Toolset Access. Deactivating Access doesn't fix the problem with Elementor and neither does taking Elementor and Elementor Pro back a few versions. The only thing that seems to restore the Elementor build is to deactivate Toolset VIEWS.

I have replaced all of the Toolset plugins (Types, Views, Forms and Access) with the previous versions (manually downloaded and installed) and this made made no difference.

I haven't deactivated all other plugins yet, but the only one that is very clearly in conflict is Views.

Is this a documented conflict? What is the next step to diagnose this issue?

What is the link to your site?

Many thanks,

Hi Doug,

Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.

To troubleshoot this, I'll need to see how these broken layout elements are set up in the admin area.

Can you please share temporary admin login details, along with some examples of the broken layout elements and where/how to see them? I'll also need your permission to download a clone/snapshot of the website, to investigate this on a different server.

Note: Your next reply will be private and making a complete backup copy is recommended before sharing the access details.

regards,
Waqar

Thank you for sharing the access details, but I'm getting the 'ERROR: Incorrect username or password.' message.

Can you please check the username and password for the WP admin access again?
(I've set your next reply as private)

The new access details worked, thank you.

I see that the homepage section is using the 'Slides' widget, in the Elementor builder. These slides are showing in the admin area preview, but not on the front-end.

Do I have your permission to download a clone/snapshot of this website? This will help in investigating this on a different server, without affecting the actual website.

Hello Waqar,
You have my permission to download a copy of this site and to load it on to another server for testing purposes.
I look forward to hearing about what you find.

I have created a staging site on the same server and changed the theme from ASTRA to KADENCE (which I now use for all my current projects). I did this with the intention of progressively re-building the site without Elementor (which I no longer use on my current projects). Surprisingly, the problems we are currently investigating don't appear on this staging site. There are many things that would need to be adjusted (padding, margins, and other theme-based elements) but generally, the site works.

On the home page, the Today's Cartoon is not displaying - but that's only because a new cartoon has not been loaded by the owner. Similar uses of the Toolset VIEWS element can be seen on the pages under ARCHIVES in the main navigation.

So possibly, the incompatibility currently being experienced may be with the ASTRA theme rather than with Elementor.

Regards,
Doug

Thank you for sharing this update and the permission.

I've downloaded the website's clone and will need to run some tests on it. Will share the findings, as soon as this testing completes.

Thank you for your patience.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still working on this. Will share the findings, by the end of the day today.

Hi Waqar,
Any update. It's been a few days.
Regards,
Doug

Thank you for waiting as this investigation turns out to be more complicated than expected.

While I can see the issue with the slider on your server, the issue can't be reproduced on a clean install or on your website's clone on my test server.

I'll continue some more tests and will share further findings as they emerge.

Many thanks for the update. I'll also continue to investigate from this end.

Waqar,
I have been able to get a copy of the site working properly - hidden link

When you see "No Items Found", that simply means that the owner hasn't loaded the Cartoon of the Day in this dev site. You can see the output of Toolset Views on this page: hidden link

The owner will update recent cartoons and I'll then make this dev site the live site.

It's still a mystery as to what actually caused the issue, but it was very clear and repeatable on this server. Who knows???

I did these things, so maybe one them changed something:
1. changed the theme from Astra to Kadence. After a few days, I changed it back again to Astra and all of a sudden it works. (???)
2. I deactivated Toolset Views and installed Toolset Blocks (which is still active on the dev site - even though I don't use Blocks. The site is using Elementor)
3. I reverted to previous versions of all Elementor and Toolset plugins with no noticeable effect. All plugins are now running the latest versions.

Please feel free to close this ticket if you like. I really appreciate your efforts in trying to track down the issue.

Kindest regards,

Doug

Thank you for sharing this update and glad that it is working now.

The only logical explanation I can think of is that the cache and code optimization plugin had something to do with this.

I'm going to mark this ticket as resolved and you're welcome to start a new one, for any new questions or concerns.
