Well - I just checked and I do not reproduce the issue you said.
I uploaded once custom marker icon from the Toolset Map settings page as you can see here:
=> hidden link
Now, when I tried to add new map and try to select the custom marker I uploaded - I can see it:
=> hidden link
When I tried to add new marker and try to select the custom marker I uploaded - I can see it:
=> hidden link
Even when I try to delete the uploaded custom icon from maps settings page - that also works.
It looks like issue is specific to your site. Could you please try with fresh clean install and check. I think once you set the marker icons you will not have issues now.
Hi Minesh,
Thank you for looking into that!
The screenshots are definitely convincing, you managed to change and upload new custom markers.
I tried to reproduce this on my Macbook, but still can not change or delete the custom marker. Thinking the issue may be linked to working on a Mac I tried this on my Windows laptop but with the same result: I can not change or delete the custom marker - not in the live installation nor in the staging installation.
I am looking for an explanation and solution. Did you change the custom icon on the staging site on our server? Or did you make a copy on your server and test it there?
If you managed to change the marker on our server, I should be able to do the same?
Many thanks,
Alex
Well - I checked with my local test install and shared screenshots with you.
As I said - it may be specific to your install as no other user reported this.
Could you please check with clean install and check if that works for you. Once you share your confirmation, I will check on your staging site soon if I can see anything.
This issue has not been resolved, however I am closing the ticket.
We now decided not to use a custom marker, but one of the default Toolset marker for the time being.
It is not how it should be, but we hope the issue will be resolved in future updates.
We do not have the time to create a new clean website installation and install Toolset there.
After long communication it turned out, you did not work on our website but on a test install on your server.
We needed this issue to be resolved on our website. It is very disappointing that tech support did not have a look at that.
Hello,
Minesh isn't available, I will take care of this thread, I can login your website, I assume we are talking about the wordpress archive "Volunteer Projects":
hidden link
In section "Loop Editor", there is a map marker shortcode:
[wpv-map-marker map_id="map-10" marker_id="marker-[wpv-post-id]" marker_icon="//your-domain.org/1528792495083/wp-content/plugins/toolset-maps/resources/images/markers/Buildings.png" ...]
The marker icon image is this URL:
hidden link
Then I tested it in front-end:
hidden link
I can see the marker icon images are displaying correctly
If you want to change the marker icon to other images, you just need to edit above marker shortcode, change the "marker_icon" attribute value to a new iamge URL.
More help:
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/maps-shortcodes/#wpv-map-marker
marker_icon. Optional, defaults to empty, which means using the default Google Maps icons for markers, or the one set for the whole map.
Dear Luo,
Thank you very much for your help and looking at the issue.
All your observations are correct. I think that is where we are at the moment.
In the Settings> Maps tab there is however an option to add custom markers.
That function is not working at all. We can not add or even delete the current custom marker.
It is this issue that we tried to report. Currently there is a user interface, but it is not working. Instead Misesh told us to upload marker icons through FTP. We understand that possibility - but the interface that Toolset developed is not working.
For us, it is now not a huge problem. We are using one of the default Toolset marker icons. Not because we like it but because it is the easiest way. We just think that the issue in Settings>Maps should be solved, so that we don't need to play with code to get things working.
NB Can you please make all messages containing links to our website private? This is for security reasons.
Many thanks again,
Alex
I've updated all posts as per your request to hide your site URL. Thanks. 🙂
Regarding maps plugin - we have major update with Toolset Maps plugin.
Even I also see that almost all the Toolset plugins are outdated on the staging site your shared. We always recommend to run your site with latest stable release plugin version.
*** Please make a FULL BACKUP of your database and website.***
Could you please update ALL Toolset plugins to it's latest official released version. You can download latest plugin release from your accounts page:
=> https://toolset.com/account/downloads/
Please check following blog posts for Toolset Maps 1.5 release:
=> https://toolset.com/2018/07/toolset-maps-1-5-with-azure-maps-google-street-view-and-ordering-by-distance/
=> https://toolset.com/2018/07/more-information-about-azure-api-implementation-in-toolset-maps-1-5/
Now, please update all Toolset plugins on staging site (as well as all other third party plugins to it's latest release) and try to upload marker and check if you are able to include it.
Hi Minesh,
Thank you for updating the URLs.
On the staging site the plugin has indeed not been updated.
However, on the live website all Toolset plugins have been updated.
The custom marker icon function in Settings>Maps is still not working.
So, instead of you putting me to work, as you seem to prefer 😉
I am going to give this work back to you: please look at other installations including our staging site and you will see that the map marker can not be changed.
I have explained this now many times, so this is the last time!
Please just solve the issue, thank you.
Alex
Well - I can do it for you, no issue. I was just following our normal support process. There is no issue to help you.
So, finally, as suspected, the issue is not from Toolset.
- I've updated all Toolset plugins to latest version on your staging site.
- Then I've start debugging this issue step by step and I found that the plugin 'Perfmatters' is the culprit. When I deactivate the plugin, I can upload the new marker to Toolset settings page.
- After that I've created a new view and test page where I can display the custom marker:
=> hidden link
I will test now tomorrow, with clean install by installing the culprit 'Perfmatters' plugin on my test install and update you if I confirm the conflict and report it to our Devs and if the issue is from plugin, later it will be passed to our compatibility team.
Hello Minesh,
That's excellent news! I am glad the culprit have finally been found. We went through debugging with our developer and we had not the slightest idea this plugin could interfere with uploading a marker icon.
We will use the suggested workaround for now, because we don't foresee changing the marker icon often. Looking forward to see the update in one of the next versions of Toolset.
Thank you very much for diving into this!
Alex
Ok, finally, finally, I found the solution for you, after debugging too much 🙂
There is a setting with plugin 'perfmatters' that says "Disable Google Maps" which is ACTIVE on your install on following link:
=> hidden link
So, now, perfmatters plugin is active but I have deactivated this setting "Disable Google Maps" on above link and saved the settings and everything looks good 🙂
Could you please confirm. Really happy to find solution for this weird issue.
Hi Minesh,
That's beautiful!! I can confirm that the issue is now also resolved on the live site!
Who would have thought such a setting even exists... We are using Google maps on several pages, so this setting could have caused more trouble sooner or later.
We can upload our own map markers now. We have been looking for hours and hours. Thank you very much for looking at this and solving it!!!
Alex
