Using Toolset with Avada Theme in WordPress

Please note that the integration between Toolset and Avada theme is currently not fully working. The Avada theme settings you select for Toolset templates (e.g. disable featured image, hide sidebar, etc.) are not applied on the front-end. At this point, we suggest looking into other Toolset recommended themes.

Examples of what you can do with Avada and Toolset

Build custom searches without coding

Create forms for front-end content editing

Display content as markers on Google Maps

Installing Toolset

To start with Toolset and Avada, you will need the following plugins:

  • Avada – Theme and accompanying plugins Avada Core and Avada Builder
  • Types – allows you to create custom post typescustom fields, and custom taxonomies.
  • Blocks – helps you display lists of your content and archives on the front-end, including custom searches for your visitors.

Depending on what features you need your site to have, you should also install the following Toolset plugins:

  • Forms – enables users to submit content via front-end forms, registration forms, and login/logout forms.
  • Access – allows you to add custom user roles and to control the access to content on the front-end for each user role.
  • Maps – allows you to display your content on Google Maps.
  • WooCommerce Blocks – helps you design product templates and much more.

What we want to get from Toolset and what we want to get from Avada

Avada is a versatile theme allowing you to take control of every aspect and section of your site. You should use Avada to set up options for your header and the footer.

On the other hand, Toolset is covering the content area of the page and does not take over Avada’s settings.

If you are using Avada Builder to create your pages and templates you can use the Text Block Element to insert Toolset custom fields.

Other than that, you should use Toolset separately from Avada. You cannot mix Toolset and Avada when creating single-post templates, lists of posts, or archive pages.

When you create a template for a single post or an archive page using Toolset and the Block Editor (aka Gutenberg), you can control different Avada theme options like the appearance of sidebar or content width.

Adding custom types, custom fields, and taxonomies with Toolset

Toolset allows you to expand your site by creating and displaying custom content. Before building any advanced features, you need to create and organize the content of your site. This includes creating custom post types (like “Tours” or “Events”), adding custom fields to them (like “Price of the Tour” or “Event Date”), and finally, creating custom taxonomies (like “Type of Tours”) to categorize the content.

The steps to create all the custom elements mentioned above are the same no matter which theme or page builder you use. To learn more about how to do this, please visit our course chapter on creating custom post types, fields, and taxonomies.

Displaying the custom content on the front-end

There are different ways that you can display your custom post type on the front-end using Toolset:

Again, you cannot mix Toolset and Avada when creating or displaying these elements.
