Hello! I've been using Toolset pretty heavily for a few years now, but I keep running into issues with Templates that were perfectly functional when they were built, but when I try to edit them after a while, they simply don't load and I get the dreaded 'The application did not respond in time' message. In the past I've been told by support that the template may have gotten corrupted and I would need to rebuild it. Since my templates are fairly complicated with tons of conditional statements and multiple views, this isn't always feasible. Making sure everything is up to date, switching themes, disabling plugins, etc. does not make any difference. And duplicating the template does not let me edit it either.
But here's the funny part: the only workaround I've found is to create a blank template and assign it to the same content type (I use a condition for a checkbox to make sure there's no downtime on the front end). Then I go into the database, find the original template's wp_posts and wp_postmeta values and copy them over to the new template EXACTLY as they are. This includes post_content, _views_template_theme_settings, _wpv_view_template_extra_css and _wpv_view_template_extra_js. In the past I've had issues with a template trying to pull images for a slideshow from a post that didn't have any and the template was crashing, so I had to remove the toolset block directly in the DB (thanks Toolset Support!), but this is not the case here.
The case I'm currently dealing with involves a template in English (broken) and French (works), but I still had to create a new template with a translation and deal with phpmyadmin in 4 places. And it's probably just a matter of time until this happens again.
Maybe I'm missing something here, as the new template's values are 1-to-1 with the original, yet the connection seems to magically work with the new template and not the old one.
Are there any other tables besides wp_posts and wp_postmeta that I should be investigating, as I would love to avoid spending the time troubleshooting?
We started to work on Toolset actively and the last release has many hotfixes and new feature added that you can use OpenStreetMaps to reduce your Map's API cost.
And the good news is that - We plan to have at least one release for Toolset.
Now, regarding your issue:
To tell you honestly what tables involved - I need to check your current setup and then I will be able to tell you.
I suggest you should setup a test site that should be 1:1 copy of your production/live site and when this issue happens again, you can share all required details like admin login, template affected link and whatever other possible inputs and once we have that then we will be able to debug that further and guide you in the right direction and has we have active development for Toolset, if the issue is found and confirmed, we will be able to provide the actual fix.
Hello Minesh. Yes, it makes sense, but before going through the lengthy process of granting WP, DB, and SFTP access, can we just confirm what tables Toolset writes in, related to a specific template, assuming all other plugins are disabled and the theme is switched to a standard WP theme?
If you provide an email I can add you as an admin user, although I suspect it will not be sufficient. If this is the first time anyone's reported this particular issue, it's probably related to my very specific setup and not sure it would be worth spending the time troubleshooting, especially since I've found a workaround already.
I do not see any other user who recently reported such issue.
But what I need from you is:
- Whenever you see the issue is back and you able to see it, please share steps (if you know) to reproduce it or share a duplicator copy of your site with all required details.
Regarding what tables write when you save the content template, the follosing are the possible tables:
- wp_options
- wp_posts
- wp_postmeta
