We use WPML groups to restrict access to languages for all our users. We have a WPML group for each language and post type. Users added per WPML group to give them access to their languages.
After upgrading to v2.8.7 these users have the following issue:
- When editing a post that has been translated with WPML, the featured image block is not appearing anymore
- When adding a new post , the featured block appears but there is no image appearing on the media library
When I downgrade to v2.6.1 everything works just fine again.
Working version: v2.6.1
Broken version (tested some other version and it seems that the issue is there as well): v2.8.7

I assume we are talking about Toolset Image block with setting: Source -> Featured Image Data
I have tried it in my localhost with a fresh WP installation + the latest version WPML plugins + Toolset plugins, it works fine.
So the problem you mentioned above is abnormal, please check these:
1) Make sure you are using the latest version of Toolset plugins + WPML plugins, you can download Toolset plugins here:

2) In case it is a compatibility problem, please deactivate all other plugins, and switch to wordpress default theme 2020, deactivate all custom PHP/JS code snippets, and test again
3) Also check if there is any PHP/JS error in your website:

4) If the problem still persists, please provide database dump file(ZIP file) of your website, you can put the package files in your own google drive disk, share the link only, also point out the problem page URL, provide detail steps to reproduce the same problem, I need to test and debug it in my localhost, thanks

Please try these:
1) Setup a test site with fresh WP installation,
2) Install the latest version of WPML + Toolset plugins
3) Try to duplicate the same problem in above test site.
