Tell us what you are trying to do?

I went through some search here and noticed we could create a discussion forum using Toolset! Although there are many plugins such as BBPress that might just make it much easier, I want to reduce as much as possible the number of plugins I am using on my site to get as much performance as possible.

As such, I would like to use Toolset to build a discussion forum on my directory site and would like to know if there is an updated documentation compared to the one provided below.

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Yes, https://toolset.com/forums/topic/create-a-discussion-forum-using-toolset/

Is there a similar example that we can see?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-discussion-board/

What is the link to your site?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.

The Toolset plugins don't include any built-in discussion forum features, which is why you'll need to include a fair amount of workarounds and custom code to achieve this only through Toolset.

In our experience, it is better to use a specialist plugin (in this case a forum plugin) whenever it is available, as it proves future-proof easier to maintain, and performance efficient, compared to workarounds.

For example, the 'bbPress' is a very popular and stable forum plugin and is backed by the WordPress team. The user interface and the features can vary from plugin to plugin and the following articles, review some of the popular options:

Okay, thanks for the advice, but since I am using Toolset for all custom post types, WooCommerce for memberships and subscriptions etc. If I use bbpress as forum, will I get the required support or is there any documentation to make all these 3 main plugins to work together within the user profile? I would like a unique user profile through all 3 main plugins at the end.

Thanks for writing back.

Both WooCommerce and bbPress use regular WordPress user objects for their profile systems. You won't need to do anything extra for those, once the user registers on the website. Those profiles will be created automatically and users will be able to use their respective profile management sections/screens, to manage them.

If you also plan to include a user profile through a Types custom post type ( ref: https://toolset.com/course-lesson/how-to-create-custom-searches-and-relationships-for-users/ ), it will be linked to the regular WordPress user through 'post author' feature. Whenever a user will create a new user profile in that custom post type, he/she will be set as the author of that post.

To make a unified profile management section, where data of all these 3 profiles can be managed, will require a fair amount of customization. For personalized assistance around custom code, you can also consider hiring a professional from our list of recommended contractors:
