Waqar and I worked on the above ticket. Per his recommendation, I cloned the site to a local server, where it works perfectly. I deleted the WP instance on the public site, and restored my cloned site to a clean environment. I am still getting 500 internal server errors when I try to edit or add custom posts in the now public site.
I have also tried to export types from the cloned site to the public. That does not solve the problem either.
Any suggestions, please?
Aloha,
Lars
Hi Lars,
Sorry to learn that the issue persists.
Is it the same server that the website was previously hosted or a new one?
regards,
Waqar
Hi Waqar - sorry for the delay!
Following your lead regarding servers, I contacted my hosting company, who cleaned up a lot of old php files, which appeared to cause the error. The front end pod the site is working, but when I now open, for instance, a custom post in "obituaries," I no longer get a 500 error, but the site responds with "It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?"
I also see a note that my site cannot communicate with Toolset, although the site is registered and allows me to check for updates with you. I see no field for your Key entry, however.
Does this give you enough to work on, Waqar?
Thank you so much for your help!
Aloha,
Lars
Hi Lars,
Thank you for sharing this update, however, I'm afraid I don't have much to add since this does seem server-specific.
Are there any new errors or warnings in the server's error log?
if you see a message like "It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?" intermittently and not always, it suggests that the firewall or the server's other security measures still block parts of the websites, on and off.
For the communication issue with the Toolset message, you can see the Toolset installer support log at the following link and share a screenshot of what you see:
{yourwebsite.com}/wp-admin/admin.php?page=otgs-installer-support
Have you considered starting afresh on a completely different server, either with the same host or a new one?
regards,
Waqar
I have now cloned the site to a hosted WordPress environment. Everything now works, with the exception of the "Awards" post, where its custom fields refuse to show up. Since I now have eliminated all other sources of errors, can someone kindly help me out with this? I will give you access to the site, but not sure if this message is "safe." Please let me know 😉
Thank you for sharing this update.
I'm setting your next reply as private so that you can share temporary admin access details and the FTP access details.
Note: It is recommended to make a complete backup of the website, before sharing the access details.
The password changed, Waqar. Kindly send me another safe form. Sorry!
Waqar - kindly disregard the request for a new private message. The password I sent you earlier works.
Thank you for sharing the access details.
I've checked the 'Awards' post type and its custom field group and it seems to be configured correctly.
I also found another report of a similar issue faced by another user hosted on WordPress.com:
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/custom-fields-not-showing-in-editor-2/#post-2300847
It turned out that clearing the cache overnight fixed the issue of custom fields not showing. I'll recommend clearing all involved caches and then testing the awards post-edit screen again.
I have cleared all caches, using both the embedded "Purge Cache" in the top dashboard, and the "WP-Optimize" plugin by UpdraftPlus. I see no change in how the "AWARDS" custom post displays its entries. How can I present this"solution" to my client, Waqar?
Thank you for sharing this update.
Can you please download a clone/snapshot of your website and deploy it on any other server/host, even a localhost?
If the custom fields do show up correctly on that instance, this will confirm that it is server-related. You can then consult WordPress.com official support team to clear the cache from the backend.
