This has been an issue for as long as I can remember but I haven't got round to reporting it until now. I am trying to assign a custom field group to the 'default' page template only. However, if I check the 'Default' checkbox under Edit Post Field Group / Templates and then save, after saving it does not keep the box ticked and says "By default this group of fields will appear when editing all content." The group then appears on every single page, post and CPT.

Please could you let me know how to keep this box ticked? All other checkboxes retain their ticked status. Do you get a different result on any other website? This is not specific to the site I'm working on - it has been the case for every website and theme I've tried it on in the past.

Thanks

I just did some tests locally, and it looks like this isn't working correctly, certainly the chosen template isn't remaining checked.

I suspect it could be related to changes we made when introducing conditional template assignment, but in any case I'll need to do some further testing.

In the meantime, can you clarify what you are aiming to do when using the default template setting?

My undersstanding is that—if working—that would assign the field group to any posts that don't have a Content Template assigned.

Thanks Nigel - I'm relieved it's not just me! You are correct - any pages that don't have a custom template assigned (and therefore are saved with the standard 'Default template' option) should have this custom field group appear in the page editor. At the moment the best I can do is select 'Pages' in the 'Edit Post Field Group' settings - but this is far from ideal, as the field group is irrelevant to all other templates. I'll stand by, Nick

Hi Nick

I went back a long way in plugin versions to see if I could identify where this broke (expecting it to be when we introduced conditional templating in Blocks 1.5), but couldn't find any versions where it worked.

It seems like it never worked, or—at least—it has been broken for a very long time.

I've gone ahead and escalated this to the developers, but I should say I imagine it may be some time before a developer is assigned to this given that it has been broken for so long and you are the first person I'm aware of to report it.
