[Closed] What happens to my custom fields and template when unregistering the plugin?

I need to unregister Toolset to update the registration key because I got the "Toolset plugin cannot connect to toolset.com" error.
My concern is that this step will create problems for the site which is online and I cannot put under maintenance. I will back up the site but if something goes wrong the restore process will prevent the license key from being updated.

What will happen to my toolset custom fields, their content and template when I unregister the plugin?
Is this procedure safe for the site?

Do you mean you want to update to latest plugin version and you are using old Toolset plugin version?

When you unrigister the site the content will stay intact with your database.

I mean that in my wordpress dashboard I have the "Toolset plugin cannot connect to toolset.com" error and I don't know how to solve it.

My plugin doesn't update automatically because of this error (or I think this is the reason) but to correct the above issue I need to be certain that nothing would heppen to my site if I unregister and then put in the new generated license key (I read this is a solution for the "cannot connect" issue).

Saying "When you unrigister the site the content will stay intact with your database. " you mean that my site will work without problems and all my custom fields/toolset template will be visible in my site front-end even in the unregister span of time?

Sorry for our late reply. Minesh is not available at the moment and I will continue this ticket.

Thank you for the debug information.

You use mostly the latest version of Toolset plugins.

Let me clarify a few points:

- Unregistering Toolset will not harm your current created custom fields and cusotm post types.

- You can always manually update Toolset plugins but you'd better have a backup before doing so.

To unregister/register Toolset follow the steps below:

- Make sure that you are logged in toolset.com.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Commercial (Tab)".
- Click the "Unregister Toolset" link. (Your translations will be safe)
- Click the "Register Toolset" at the right section of the screen.
- Click the "Get a key for this site" link annotated in the screenshot below.
- A new page will open up and the auto-generated key will show in pop-up.
- Copy the key and paste it into the "Site Key" input box annotated in the screenshot below.
- Click the "OK" button.

To update Toolset plugins:

- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Make sure you are signed in toolset.com.
- Go to https://toolset.com/account/downloads/
- Click the "Download Toolset manually" link to show the rest of the plugins on the page.
- Download the latest version of the Toolset plugins
- Install them manually on your website like any other plugin.

For the Cannot connect message please check this:

- Go to WP Dashboard > Toolset > Settings
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Toolset Debug Information and Troubleshooting ." link.
- On the new page, scroll down and click the "Installer Support" link.
- On the new page, see if you can detect any errors in the installer log table.

Meaning of each possible error:

Error:
Toolset: cURL error 6: Could not resolve host: api.toolset.com

Meaning:
You (if testing from a local development install) or your host are not connected to the internet or its DNS server is not properly configured or reachable.

Solution:
Check your internet connection or contact your hosting support and try again

Error:
Toolset: cURL error 7: Failed to connect to api.toolset.com port 443: Bad access

Meaning:
Toolset is blocked by a firewall

Solution:

Contact your hosting provider and ask them to whitelist the following domains:

api.toolset.com
cloudfront.net

Error:
Toolset: cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 45009 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

Meaning:
There was a temporary slow-down between your server and toolset.com

Solution:
Try again in a few minutes. If the issue persists, ask for assistance from your hosting provider
