I have tried the new files in my localhost, it works just fine within 1~2 seconds, see my screenshot.

And I have tried to remove that custom codes from theme file "lib/views-plugin-custom.php", and get the same result.

So there should be other compatibility/server issue in your website.

Please check these in your website:
1) Edit theme file lib/views-plugin-custom.php, remove that custom codes:
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/alphabetical-filter-option/#post-377810

2) Test again, check the search loading time again, check if there is any difference.

If there isn't much difference, then please try as I mentioned above:

- In case it is a compatibility problem, please deactivate all other plugins, and switch to WordPress default theme 2021, deactivate all other custom PHP/JS code snippets, and test again
- Also check if there is any PHP/JS error in your website:

Thanks for the update. See the attached screenshot from my end. From the screenshot, does it look like it's a server issue?

I can't make changes on the live site now, I will need to setup a test site on a different server. I may not get to that until the weekend.

I am running the latest version of Toolset. I didn't see any errors in devtools console.

Did you see any JS or PHP errors?

What changes (if any) can I make to the filtering/search so that the results load faster?

Thanks

I have checked the PHP debug logs, don't see any PHP errors, there is only one message:

Deprecated: Unparenthesized `a ? b : c ? d : e` is deprecated. Use either `(a ? b : c) ? d : e` or `a ? b : (c ? d : e)` in D:\xampp-\wp-content\plugins\wp-timelines\shortcode\timeline.php on line 23

Above message is from another plugin "wp-timelines"
