My website is not up and running yet but right now im working on my custom post type with repeatable field groups

I reported a similar issue a little while ago and just dealt with it.

I had just finished a group and pressed save. it told me it saved successfully. I noticed I had a plugin to update so I went there and did that. When I came back I to start on another group I noticed the last group I just finished disappeared. I didn't want to waste time so I just started to reconstruct it. I started to save some parts but instead got the "field slug already used". And just to clarify I only used that slug for that group that disappeared.

Normally I would move on, but this is the second time this happened to me and I know I saved that information.

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

I checked your previous ticket that is handled by Luo and as per his finding he shared with the following reply, there was an issue with Repeating field group name size:
=> https://toolset.com/forums/topic/previously-deleted-repeateable-group-slug-prevents-me-from-using-that-name-again/#post-1517473

First thing, the access details you shared is not working at this end. Can you please send me working access details.

In addition to that, what Repeating field group you created? Have you deleted the Repeating field group you created? Are you using the Repeating field group you created anywhere already?

I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.

Hello Minesh,

Thank you for getting back to me.

First off, im terribly sorry I have no clue what FTP details are and how to get them for you. It would be great if toolset could add an article or video or something to explain how to do this for all future troubleshooting.

As for the repeating field group, im glad you mention the name being too long. To explain better, I had finished up the repeatable group and saved it successfully. Then I created a new repeatable field group because I wanted to place custom fields into it and went to save and thats when it told me it had to be no more than 20 characters (which was true, I did have more than 20 characters). So I shortened it to about 12 characters, pressed save and it still gave me the same message despite being clearly below the 20. I got frustrated and reloaded knowing I wasn't going to lose anything much. when it came back the first group that I had saved successfully before this was gone along with the group I got frustrated with and one field type that had been saved quite some time ago completely disappeared. when I started to create it over again the slug said it was already in use. I am certain that nothing else had that slug name except the ones that disappeared.

FTP access is not required for now.

I am still not able to get into the admin panel. Can you please send me working admin access details.

It looks like the RFG you created is already available in the database. Can you please tell me what name you are given with 12 characters to your repeating field group? And to which custom field group you assigned the Repeating field group?

Please send me admin access details and I'm happy to look at this further.

I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.

Unfortunately - still the wp-admin access details you shared are not working at this end. I checked with one of my colleagues as we and for him as well the wp-admin access details you shared is not working.

First thing I need to confirm that if there any real issue and to confirm that I need admin access details. Can you please send me working admin access details.

I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.

Thank you. This time access details working.

I checked on your install and I found that there is only one custom field group created that holds eight repeating field groups. I see that the repeating field group Cultivar/Variety do not contain any fields.

Can you please tell me what fields you have added to that group? I would like to know is there any field part of this field group that is shown with the following screenshot: hidden link ?

#1547239

YES! finally! that's good news.

Okay so, cultivar/Variety is empty at this point. I have not had time to get around to adding anything to it. None of those field parts are a part of Cultivar/Variety, some are just tests and others are field groups with other plant parts.

Where the issue occurred is in Bark2 repeatable field group. what is there now for field types is only 'bark use' but there were a few others that disappeared after being saved like Bark Description, Bark appearance and Bark and age.

Ok - I tried to add those fields which is already available as existing field and when I try to save the value I see it does not get saved.

I see the custom field group is having a number of fields.

Could you please increase value of <strorng> php.ini setting for "max_input_vars" to 5000 and try to resolve your issue.
=> http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10303714/php-max-input-vars
-- Please contact your server admin to update above setting if you do not know how to do it.

Once you update the "max_input_vars" to 5000, please let me know.

Hello Minesh,

Like you suggested, I got my server admin to do it, since I had no clue how to do any of that.

Ok - please let me know how it goes and if that helps you to resolve your issue.

ooo I guess I didn't understand what to do. None of the previously saved fields came back so I tried to create the field type 'Bark Description' again and I got the same notice as before "field slug already used".

As you can see with the screenshot: hidden link
- The Bark Description field is already available that is why you are not able to create the bark Description field because its already available.

You can add it to your custom field by following:
=> Click on "Add New Field" button
=> Click on the button "Choose from the previously created fields" screenshot: hidden link
=> You will see the list of field that is already created/available and you should select the field you want to add
