I have items in my Content Template list that look like they don't belong, but I can't find a way to delete them. No telling how I managed to do this. Being a newbie is such a pain! LOL

Any idea how I can delete these records?

Hello, are you referring to the "WordPress Archive loop items 1 - 6"? If so, then those templates correspond to each of the WordPress Archives seen here: hidden link.

When you create a WordPress Archive or a View, you have the option of creating a template for use in the loop editor. Those are the "loop item" templates you see in your list of Content Templates.

In turn, each of the WordPress Archives correspond to a WordPress Archive cell that was added to a Layout. It's possible that a single Layout with a WordPress Archive cell was duplicated several times. That would result in duplicated WordPress Archive cells (and therefore duplicated Content Templates). It's also possible that the Layout that holds the WordPress Archive cell was deleted or is in the trash.

So you could look through the existing archive Layouts and confirm which WordPress Archives are legitimate (they would have corresponding WordPress Archive cells in an archive Layout), then delete any unnecessary WordPress Archives. Orphaned Content Templates should become deletable at that point.

But before you go through all that, I want to make sure you are aware of some best practices for using Toolset and Elementor together. We have a guide available here: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/using-toolset-with-elementor-page-builder/
I especially want to point out that the use of Layouts is not recommended with Elementor, and it is not recommended to assign a Content Template and an Elementor Template to the same post.

Hello Christian,

Thanks for your support! I am really struggling to understand what you're trying to teach me. What do you mean by "the use of "Layouts is not recommended with Elementor?"

I'm a visual learner and process your text is not easy for me. Is there any chance you could do a quick video to help me understand or even a Zoom conference? If you could just show me how use Elementor with one of my CPTs in CRUD

The CPT side of Toolset is the best I've used. I've tried Pods, CPT and Custom Fields, and Croboblock's Jet Engine.

I've cleaned up my big mess and completely started over with my layouts and views. After a night's rest, I think I have a better understanding of how to approach using Toolset and Elementor.

If I understand correctly from what you've said above and on the documentation links you provided, it would be better to use Toolset to design instead of trying to use both Elementor and Toolset. I can then use those views within Elementor by using the Toolset widgets. Is this correct?

Provide the above is true, my next big challenge is to accomplish my layouts and views in Toolset. At the forefront of this challenge is to decide which editor to use, the classic or block. I say that because, after switching themes the Block editor seems to be working.

Since my styling will be done in CSS, I think the big issue for me will be layouts. Which editor would you recommend that I use on this my first website with Toolset? This is actually a small project but I am under a go-live schedule that is fast approaching. Therefore, my learning curve is heavily enmeshed in my short development time. Oh my! LOL

Sure, let me clarify. If you would like to use Elementor / Elementor Pro, you should deactivate the Toolset Layouts plugin. Or if you want to use Toolset Layouts, you should deactivate Elementor / Elementor Pro. The two systems are incompatible, so you should pick one and deactivate the other in wp-admin > Plugins.

Would it be better to use Toolset to design...what exactly? Views? Content Templates? WordPress Archives? None of those can be designed with an Elementor builder. On the other hand, there may be things the Elementor builder does well, that Toolset does not do. My point is that it's subjective, and depends on what you want to achieve.

If you're more accustomed to drag-and-drop editors like Elementor, Divi, and so on, the block editor will be more like those experiences. Check out the Toolset Blocks beta plugin and this quick guide: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/how-toolset-plugins-work-with-gutenberg/
If you're more into writing your own custom CSS and HTML, the classic editor will give you more fine-grained control over the final output.

Since my styling will be done in CSS, I think the big issue for me will be layouts. Which editor would you recommend that I use on this my first website with Toolset?
I would say classic is better if you're more comfortable with writing custom CSS / HTML to achieve exactly what you want. Block is probably better if you're looking for more of a drag-and-drop experience like Elementor / Toolset Layouts / Divi.

So, I went back to just using Elementor for the Single and Archive layouts. But it only took just a little while before I hit the need to show relationships and their fields.

Please tell me there's a way of doing this in Elementor!

#1298745

Christian, the more I learn from you, it seems what's on the Toolset website, and in the training videos and documentation is not entirely forthright and is misleading. While, yes, you can do simple low-end CPTs and custom fields sites with both tools, you can't do heavy-end dynamic and relational projects with both technologies.

Christian, this "Toolset Sponsored" Elementor / Toolset training video by Paul was the decision point for me to move forward with Toolset: hidden link

But now you're telling me that this is wrong and that it shouldn't be done this way. Before I tell Paul and the Elementor community about this, I want to make sure I've got my facts right.

We're getting a bit off-topic from the original issue here, so if you need more detailed information about this please create a ticket for a new specific question and we can go from there. The short answer is yes, you can use a View to display information from related posts, and you can insert that View in an Elementor template using a View element or a text element with a View shortcode. However, reading between the lines, it sounds like you want to be able to use an Elementor builder to design a View's output. That level of integration is not offered. You cannot use the Elementor builder to build a View of Books. Toolset's new Blocks project is moving toward this type of on-the-fly visual design experience while using the native WordPress block editor. We have beta versions available if you're interested.

I will watch the video you mentioned and give you some feedback in a few minutes, please stand by.

I think saying "this is wrong" is far too general, even hyperbolic. I think a more accurate description is that parts of this video are inapplicable when the site also uses Elementor. However, this video is still a great source of information. When Layouts are not used, you can substitute other features to accomplish something similar. You can use Content Templates instead of Layouts, or you can use Elementor Pro's templates for single posts.

Feel free to ask about anything specific that is concerning you. I recommend a new ticket for each issue. Thanks!

Hello Christian,

I appreciate your assistance and support. After careful consideration, I've decided that Toolset is not the right tool for me and I've requested a refund.

I used a new version of JetEngine and a couple of their other plugs and had everything setup, and working with deep integration with Elementor.

I really liked some parts of Toolset, but the lack of deep integration with Elementor was the decision point.

Thanks!
