I am trying to:

To setup multiple relationships between posts of the same type (family tree: father, mother, ...)

Instead, I got:

For no obvious reason it is no possible to relate posts of the same type.

This should be solved 🙁

Hi, it's not currently possible to set up post relationships between posts of the same post type for technical implementation reasons. It's on the roadmap, but our developers have not implemented it yet. In the current system, the best way to "relate" posts of the same type is to use taxonomies or custom fields. If you'd like to see post relationships features extended to relate posts in the same post type, I encourage you to submit your request over here: https://toolset.com/home/contact-us/suggest-a-new-feature-for-toolset/

If you need more information about using taxonomies or custom fields to connect custom post types, please let me know.

The issue is already on the roadmap. So I hope it will be released soon.

Was there any update on this functionality being released?

Yes I would also like to know about this planned feature, it was on the roadmap 6 years ago.
I've sent a new feature request, but hopefully it will be treated as an old request.
Kinds regards
