I am trying to:
Use the slug of a test custom post that was deleted

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
hidden link

I expected to see:
The ability to use whatever slug I want.

Instead, I got:
Certain slugs (of deleted custom post fields), such as "cost" as unavailable. Instead, I am asked to use a different slug "such as, 'Cost 2,' Instead of 'Cost'"

If you go to Toolset > Custom Fields you'll see a button at the bottom, "Post Field Control".

That gives you more control over the custom fields created with Types as well as those found scanning the database.

You should be able to locate the old field and permanently delete it from there which would free up the slug for re-use.

Could you try that and let me know?
