I've spent 4 months trying to build this site. I've never built a wordpress site prior to this so yes very new and frustrated. I'm trying to build an aggregator site for hunting content with wp rss aggregator plugin. I'm using astra as my theme and I haven't touched much on the design because I just wanted to make sure I could get the main functionality down before worrying about the pretty and basic stuff. Maybe, that's the problem, it's just that I've had to start over 5 times now so I just wanted to make sure the core of what I'm needing will work.
I've followed this tutorial below but my pages aren't changing. Like nothing happens. I click preview and it's the basic astra post. I've tried content templates and layouts and adjusted from bootstrap 4 to 3 and I can't see a change in anything. I figured maybe this is a simple setting that's not working or something. I don't know but I've spent hours trying to figure out why this isn't working. I mean it seems so easy and I just don't understand what mistake I'm having.
Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.
Sorry to hear that you already spend enough time but still you do not get the desired results. I would be happy to help you further but I will require more details on your issue.
Can you please tell me what exactly not working and where. Do you mean that you are not able to import the RSS feed?
Alright so here's the issue more specifically. I apologize I wasn't specific at all.
I'm using wp rss aggregator (bundle package), astra (pro add on) and obviously toolset. Right now I'm just trying to build a page, layout, content template (whatever) to display youtube videos via wp rss aggregator. I'm familiar with wp rss aggregator but not the other two so I'm thinking my issues are with them.
Here's the problems I'm having:
-not importing a post excerpt
-not embedding videos
-displaying a featured image when I've selected not to include it on posts through wp rss aggregator feed to post
-my basic wordpress taxonomy that I set up in my general settings in wp rss aggregator aren't automatically being assigned with my cpt but were working with the standard wordpress post.
-No matter what order I build the layout, content template, astra theme settings, whatever else the page still looks the exact same
Seems like there's gotta be something simple I'm missing to have all of these issues. I apologize if this is a very obvious fix but like I said, I'm a newbie... The below pictures show the order in which I built the post type all the way to the end result. I'll go ahead and summarize all of this to alleviate as much confusion as possible.
#1) I make the post type and select to use the classic editor. I believe I did this because I read on a tutorial that you have to use this when building through layouts.
#2) After making the post I went to Layouts> Add New Layout and connected it to the post type. This is the way the layout looked on this tutorial https://toolset.com/2019/03/import-content-post-typewp-rss-aggregator/
#3) I then went to my dashboard> create content template> and selected the premade layout I just made
#4) Just shows what the content template looked like after I made it.
*I selected "keep third party filter" because... I have no idea why at this moment.
#5 These are he astra settings I used on my content template. I left them default on my prior attempts but they all produce the same result
#6 Just showing what my dashboard looks like after all of this
#7 On my feed to post plugin I used the content template that the cpt that I just created should have anyway.
*I've tried different settings with the same outcome prior
#8 On my Astra settings>Content Layout I selected "full width contained" (I believe I saw this recommendation on some toolset documentation somewhere).
#9 I changed from bootstrap 4.0 to 3.0 but couldn't figure out how to change the row size.
First of all, I would like to inform you that Toolset Layouts plugin is on maintenance mode, that means we are not going to add any new features to it and hance I suggest you should go with content template.
Is there any reason you are using Layouts? Do you still want to use the Toolset Layouts plugin? If no, you should deactivate it and I will take it from there.
The reason I chose layouts is that the tutorials I saw were all using layouts. It seemed easier than the templates and I just wanted a simple page design with the functionality being the main focus. I thought it was more of a responsive design because it used boot strap. I don't know what boot strap is but from what I read it was the best thing for having a mobile/responsive website.
I don't care if I need to build it with legos as long as it works. I will deactivate the plugin and go the content templates route. I'm glad I reached out! Thank you!
Ok - You can go with layouts there is no issue with that.
Can you please share problem URL and access details so I can review your current setup and check whats going wrong.
*** Please make a FULL BACKUP of your database and website.***
I would also eventually need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site. Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed.
I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.
As said, Layouts is in maintenance mode and we are not going to add any new features to it but you can use it if you can finally want to use Layouts.
But when I login to your site I do not see you are using Layouts currently.
Also, I see you assigned the following template to your post type
=> hidden link
- Within the above template you added the another template and I can see that template is actually empty.
=> hidden link
- you did not added anything there. I've added the "Fields and Text" block and added the text "some thing add here" and I can see it displayed on frontend:
=> hidden link
Can you pleases add the the content you want to display to the content template you added and check if that help you to resolve your issue.
