Dear Toolset Support,

I work with hierarchical CPTs and use WPML. Currently I can open the following page ...
hidden link
... also by ...
hidden link

As soon as I remove the hierarchical option from the CPT or deactivate WPML, the behavior disappears and the duplicated URL is reduced to the simple version.

Is this behavior known or are there settings to prevent it?

Thx Torsten

Hi Torsten,

Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.

On my test website without any plugins at all, I can still access the page if I repeat the slug of the parent and the child pages.

For example, if I have a child page at:
testwebsite.com/sample-page/child-sample-page/

I can still access it using the URL:
testwebsite.com/sample-page/child-sample-page/sample-page/child-sample-page/

Without WPML the URL redirects back to the original page, but with WPML, the page doesn't redirect. In both cases though, the same page is shown.

Are you seeing these repeated slugs links automatically generated on your website, somewhere? Unless, those duplicated slug URLs are automatically being used on the website, I don't see how this behaviour can have any negative impact.

regards,
Waqar

Hi Waqar,

thx for testing and replicating the issue.

I came up with the problem when I implementet a redirection* to keep google ranking for:
hidden link

which should lead to:
hidden link

instead it was leading to:
hidden link
don't ask my why!

I hot fixed this problem by now by adding an other redirect for
hidden link

"I don't see how this behaviour can have any negative impact."
If in my case google index the same content under two URLs, there is a big impact in SEO as of doubble content!

*using Rank Math Redirections, but that should make no impact to the problem

Thank you for sharing this background information.

I've shared these details with the concerned team for further review and will keep you updated through this ticket.

Thank you for waiting and I've received an update.

Since this behaviour can be reproduced with WPML, even without any Toolset plugins activated, it would be appropriate to report this through the WPML support forum:
https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/

You're welcome to start a new ticket there and share what we've discussed.
