[Resolved] Displaying Hierarchical Taxonomy Child Categories in Blocks

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The user would like to display child terms in a term archive page with blocks as a slider.

Solution:
Currently, with blocks, creating taxonomy views is not yet available. We will need to create a taxonomy view, to view the term children with legacy views, and use it inside a view block. The view needs to be filtered for children of the term of the current archive page.

To enable to legacy views editor, go to WPML->Settings->General->Editing experience

We cannot have this view as a slider because of a known issue on Archive templates. We cannot have AJAX enabled for another template except the archive loop. Sliders are based on AJAX

Thanks Jamal,

I've changed the theme to 2011 and i also disabled the plugin that comes with Astra, but it seems that there's still an overflow issue with the content (2nd screenshot). I even noticed this on one of the regular pages that makes heavy use of layouts - 1st screen shot
hidden link is just one example - it's difficult to spot, but i always thought that the elements either side of the map was slightly narrower than the post content below for no apparent reason?

I did not change any Toolset settings when i did this -such as loading bootstrap settings - but I get an error when i now enter toolset settings - screen cap 3

I'm looking at the archive page now ( hidden link ) and it seems that the footer is now staying in the footer, but once i do inspect element, it returns to cover the archive and that there are still some issues in the formatting. For example - the taxonomy description lacks paragraph formatting, and some of the elements seem wider than others. This is really obvious on a mobile screen where the content on some elements have no padding. See screen cap 4 (it's the best i can do). Also -one of the "Walking Routes in Snowdonia National Park" titles is offset to the right -

Also - thumbnails for one of the views have totally disappeared (but re-appear once i disable my Litespeed cache - which is strange) - I'm hoping this is just a side effect of whatever's causing the bigger problem as it's one of the views that's not quite appearing at the proper width( Where to Walk in Snowdonia National Park)

Just for the record - I do have a separate issue with the Astra Theme that's preventing some rendering on this page:

hidden link

This is now showing an overflowing footer as well which it didn't when this issue first started 2 months ago - though there are no Views on this example page. I'm currently in discussions with their support on this and it could well be the same issue.

Thanks again for all the help, it's really appreciated!

Dave.

edit - appears screencaps are in reverse order!

I am really sorry but I am confused. It would be better to focus on one issue until we fix it and work on the other on another ticket.
If you still find issues to display the taxonomy child terms, we can work on it. If that is now fixed, please mark this ticket as resolved and let's work on another issue on another ticket.

If I am too confused and you think that we are still working on the original issue of this ticket, please elaborate more and let us find how to fix it.

Hi Jamal,

That's fair enough!

I'll do some more troubleshooting to be absolutely certain that it's not the theme as i have one site that's running a different theme and Toolset, so i can use that to pinpoint the cause and I'll reopen a more specific ticket if the archive issues appear regardless of theme.

Thanks for all the help.
Dave.
