Tell us what you are trying to do?

I want to learn more about how content templates get assigned. I was using an old Product Content Template called Template for Products - see attached. I wanted to update it so I created a new one called New Products - see attached. The new one was still in draft form (is not ready) but as soon as I created it, it was assigned to the Products Custom Field, replacing the old one.

Why did that happen? How can I work on a new Content Template and saved it in Draft without it being picked up?

Both the New Template and the Old Template appear as Template options when a new product is being added - see attached. I do not want to delete the Old Template but I feel it is confusing to have more than one template options. How do I archive/save the Old template so that I can refer to it?

Is there any documentation that you are following? See attached.

Is there a similar example that we can see? See attached.

What is the link to your site? hidden link

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

Basically, if you want to change the content template for your single post, you should navigate to:
=> Toolset => Content Templates => Click on the "Usage for single page", it will display list of post types with content template assigned

Now, you will see the "Change Content Template" link when you mouse hover the any post type item and you can check it from there. Please check the following screenshot: hidden link

Ok. As a follow up questions, do you see that there are 2 Template Options on Product listing page. Both of the templates are active options, instead of having both of them I'd like to just use one. Therefore remove the extra option but not completely erase it.

How to do that?

You can not control that, as whatever content template you create it will be available as a option. You just need to select appropriate option (ofcourse it will apppl to that single post/page you are currently editing)

If you want to apply to all of your single product posts, you should follow the guidelines I shared here:

Please check the following Doc:

The first link you sent me sends me back to my post - did you intend to send me a different link?

The 2nd is helpful. However, there are some features that I do not see and dont know where to go. For example, the Content Template settings in the image 2. I dont know how to get those options.

Thank you

As you are using Toolset Blocks now, you can see the same settings on your content Template's right side bar.

Per your instructions, the Content Template New Products is set as default.

However the problem when Users go to add Products is that every single Content Template that has been created (even those in draft form) are listed as options on the top right side and it must be confusing for the user.

Is it possible to put those extra templates as draft form so that they do not get picked up?

There is no way to hide the templates from the select box.

I checked if you Trash the content template whatever you wish from the following list, so once you Trash it, it will not appear as dropdown option.

And whenever you want that Trashed content template again, you should just go to Trash list and click on Restore link.

I trashed the templates and it seems to work. As a follow up, now the options are None and the Template - see screenshot.

Can we remove the option of None and just leave one Template? I believe that it was set up that way previously.

Its not possible to remove None option as None is the default option if no content template is assigned to the post.
