We have "Experts" and "Published Papers" CPTs with a multi-multi post relationships that works as expected to display experts as authors for their papers.
We want to something similar with events and pull "experts" to display with the event that they are hosting. We created a multi-multi post relationship for "Experts" CPT and events post created with Event Espresso plugin.
The post relationship's box appears when editing an "expert" post but it does not appear when editing an "event" post. We checked the screen options tab and the post relationship box option is not listed there like the "expert" post has, attached screenshot.
The relationship works when we link an event to an expert by editing the expert post, but ideally we want to be able to do this through the event post editor as we create new events.
Is there something that we can do to get the post relationship's box to appear when editing an event post?
We also created a field group for the Event Espresso events post type for non-expert names to display and the field group box is displaying when editing an event post.
We are testing these changes on a localhost duplicate of the live website. I also tested this set up on a fresh localhost WordPress installation using the free version of Event Espresso and got the same results.
Thanks for your help.
Hi,
Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.
During testing on my website, I was able to reproduce this behavior too. The related post meta box is not available on the Event Espresso plugin's single event edit screen.
I've shared this with the concerned team for further review and will keep you updated through this ticket.
regards,
Waqar
Thanks for the update.
I just noticed that the field group I created for the "Events" post type is appearing for all post types. When I edit the field group to make it only appear for "Events" post type, the "Events" post type is not listed under the "Post Types" tab.
Thank you for waiting.
I've heard back from the compatibility team. The reason the Toolset's related post meta box doesn't appear on the Event Espresso plugin's single event edit screen, because technically it is not a standard WordPress post edit screen. The the Event Espresso plugin seems to use a custom admin page for this.
We have published a public erratum about this at:
https://toolset.com/errata/related-posts-ui-missing-when-editing-event-espresso-posts/
You can get in touch with the plugin author to suggest to manage the single events through WordPress standard post edit feature going forward or share some other workaround.
Thank you for letting us know.
We'll reach out to the Event Espresso to see if they can help.
