I have added a single checkbox to a form for Ts & Cs, which I have marked as "Required" and also provided a custom error message i.e. "You must accept our terms & conditions to proceed further".

This performs the validation as expected when I hit submit on the form without checking the checkbox, however the error message displayed is "This field is required". It is not showing the error message that I have set up above.

Also, the Form Message section shows a message of "The user was not saved because of the following problem:". Is there any option to change this message to something more custom?

Hi there,

Thanks for asking! I'd be happy to help.

If a custom validation message is set in a custom field's "Validation error message" field ( screenshot: hidden link ), it is carried over to the front-end form as well.

If no custom validation message is assigned to the field, then the default messages from the form's "Messages" tab are used.

In case, you're experiencing different behavior on your website, please test the form with all non-toolset plugins disabled and with a default theme like Twenty Seventeen.
