I create a CPT called Events. In the Toolset dashboard, I have made a layout for Events Archive.
Now, I want to make a new layout for Events category archive, which is different from Events Archive.
Do I make the new layout in Views first? How do I make it as the template for category archive?
Please help. Thanks
Hello, first you must choose whether you want to use Toolset Layouts or Elementor. These two systems are incompatible, so if you want to use Elementor you should deactivate Layouts. If you want to use Layouts, deactivate Elementor. We have more information about using Toolset and Elementor together here: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/using-toolset-with-elementor-page-builder/
Let me know what you decide, and we can go from there.
Thanks for your reply.
In this CPT, I have to choose Toolset layout.
For Archive, Elementor seems difficult to retrieve the custom fields created by Toolset. Is that right?
Do I have to deactivate Elementor if I choose Toolset layout? Does that mean I cannot use the Elementor any more? If so, that would be disastrous as I use many Elementor pages.
Looking forward to hearing from you again. Thanks.

It is a bit more difficult to insert Types custom field content in an Elementor archive, that is correct. You can use the "Dynamic Content" feature for simple text and number fields, but this feature is not very flexible. It does not allow you to apply much formatting, and it does not allow you to choose fields from a related post. In a Text editor widget, you can manually type Toolset shortcodes, or cut-and-paste a Toolset shortcode. To create that shortcode automatically, open a post editor page in another browser tab, then use the Fields and Views button to create the field shortcode. Then copy that shortcode from the post editor and return to the browser tab with your Elementor editor. Paste that shortcode into the text editor element to see the field in your Elementor design.

Yes, I think you understand correctly. You must choose one and deactivate the other one. If you choose Toolset Layouts, the entire site must be created with Toolset Layouts. If you choose Elementor, the entire site must be created with Elementor. The site must be all Layouts or all Elementor. In other words, you cannot use Elementor to design some templates and pages, and Layouts for other templates and pages. You must choose one page builder for the entire site.
Let us assume you deactivate Toolset Layouts and keep Elementor active. What problems do you experience now? Maybe there are workarounds with Elementor - for example, copy + paste Toolset shortcodes from another tab into the Elementor builder. Let me know and we can discuss those things.
My issue is resolved now. Thank you!
