Hello, I just bougt Toolset license to build a site with some custom post types and closed section for employees.
Plan was to build pages using Elementor page builder and create custom templates using Toolset.

Now I'm confused how to approach development. Documentation has all sorts of options and how to guides, but there are notes that it is not good to start a new site using for example Layouts.

I need to implement custom design for the website. I need custom header and footer, website will have sidebars on the left or on the right. On the site there will be different lists and searches for the content.

Can I use Elementor to build header and footer and sidebars and Toolset Blocks for everything else? What is the best way to approach building the site?

Hi David,

Welcome to Toolset and thank you for contacting us.

We have a detailed guide on the topic of using the Elementor and Toolset together at:
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/using-toolset-with-elementor-page-builder/

Your observation about Toolset Layouts is correct. Since Elementor and Toolset Layouts plugins, both offer page structure building features, it is recommended to use only one of them, on a website.

If you're already using Elementor, then you can use it to design elements like header, footer and sidebar. For the inner content, fields and post lists etc, you can use Toolset Types and Views plugins, as needed.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you need any further assistance around this.

Waqar

Hi,
thanks for the reply.

Is it possible to build header, footer and sidebar using Elementor and build page and archive templates using Blocks?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for writing back.

Yes, the workflow, in this case, would be that you'll be managing the layout (i.e. header, footer, sidebar and content sections) of the pages and WordPress archives through the Elementor's templates ( and not Toolset's ).

However, inside those templates, you'll be able to insert individual Toolset fields or content templates created using Toolset Blocks.
