I am experimenting with the Toolset Block editor, and must admit I'm finding it much more restrictive than Classic Views.
I want to create a list of categories from a custom taxonomy, which isn't possible at the moment https://toolset.com/forums/topic/woocommerce-archives-list-categories-instead-of-products/
Please can you advise when these blocks will be available?
In order to create/edit a taxonomy list I need to install Views, and I am required to deactivate Toolset blocks. How does this hang together? It doesn't feel at all coherent at the moment. I really think it's premature to call that a 'Legacy' plugin....
Taxonomy Views are more popular than User Views, so they'll be implemented in Blocks first, but I can't say when I'm afraid, it's not in the next couple of dev cycles so we are looking at a minimum of some months.
Just to clear something up about the plugins themselves, Blocks and Views are essentially the same, just with different UIs active by default. With either plugin installed you can go to Toolset > Settings and choose whether to show the Blocks UI, the classic UI, or both.
You can activate both UIs, create a taxonomy View with the legacy editor, then insert it in a template made with Blocks by inserting the shortcode for the View in something like a shortcode block or a Classic block (which has the Fields and Views button that you can use to insert the shortcode in place).
Hi Nigel,
Thank you for the clarification - it helps to understand how the two relate. It would definitely be worth having that workflow in your 'Design a Directory/Classifieds Site' training course, as I can't imagine anyone wanting one of those without an index, i.e. the ability to list categories/tags in a view.
