I am trying to:
The feature was working: Seeing comment count + comments.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
hidden link

I expected to see:
Comment count and comments

Instead, I got:
No comment count, no comments

- I turned off all plugins (beside Toolset) and the malfunction remains.
- I downgraded WP to different versions, incl. 6.4.4

Thank you!

Hi there

I just tested the wpv-post-comments-number shortcode on my local test site and it worked okay, displaying the number of comments added to a post.

Might I suggest you try testing in a minimal setup with only Toolset plugins active and with the twentytwentyone theme.

Does it then work as expected?

Thank you Nigel!

I noticed that on hidden link
I cannot select ALL plugins (I just used this as a first debug point):

- switched to twenty twenty four
- disabled all plugins (including ToolSet)
- I am able to select ALL plugins

As soon as I activate Toolset Types 3.5.2 (only active plugin) I cannot select ALL plugins!

I have WP 6.5.3 installed (and re-installed it).

I am puzzled.

Thank you for any hint.
Holger

Hi Holger,

To troubleshoot this further, I'll need to see how these plugins and comments settings are set up in the admin area.

Can you please share temporary admin login details, in reply to this message?

Note: Your next reply will be private and making a complete backup copy is recommended before sharing the access details.

regards,
Waqar

Thank you for sharing the access details.

I can confirm that is the same issue with the 'select all' checkbox, which has already been reported to the development team:
https://toolset.com/errata/select-all-checkbox-broken-in-wordpress-6-5-when-forms-active/

I've added your voice to this matter too and will keep you updated through this ticket.

Thank you!

So, I assume that this is the same issue that causes the " [wpv-post-comments-number]" to be broken and preventing Comments to show?

The issue of the 'select all' checkbox not working is not related to this comment shortcode not working.

In the template named 'HH Comment Accordion', I noticed that the comment count shortcode is shown through the 'Lightweight Accordion' block's top label field:

This post has [wpv-post-comments-number none='No Comments' one='1 Comment' more='% Comments']

But this field doesn't support processing of any shortcode which is why the shortcode is getting printed as it is, without the count.

I've added a 'Shortcode' block above this 'Lightweight Accordion' block and moved the text and the comment count shortcode in that and now it shows the count correctly on the front end.

Thank you Waqar, I appreciate your looking into this.

For a long time the accordion worked with the comments.
I followed your suggestion and removed the accordion on the live site, but the comment count and comments still don't show.

A mystery?

- I didn't suggest removing the 'Lightweight Accordion' block. I just suggested adding a shortcode block above it as can be seen in my screenshot, attached in the last reply.

You can see the comment count and comments both working on the staging website:

Thank you for your encouragement.
I tested it on the live-site:

The toolset tag now renders correctly, even in the accordion.
Is there a codebase on your servers that you maintain?

The comments still don't work on the front-end.

> Is there a codebase on your servers that you maintain?

- I'm not sure what you mean by this. Can you please share some more details about this?

> The comments still don't work on the front-end.

- Can you please share the exact link where the comments are not working? If it's on the live website, please share its temporary admin login details too.

Note: I've set your next reply as private and please make a backup copy of the live website too, before sharing the access details.

- With "codebase on your servers" I meant: are there files/libraries that "my" Toolset plugins pull from your sites?
It just felt so strange that suddenly the shortcode worked.

- No comment form/comments for example on the instaWP staging site (/word2/satsang-honoring-truth-05-10-2024/)

When I go to "Edit Site" I see the comment form, but not on the front-end.

Thank you for your perseverance!

- Toolset plugins don't pull/load the files from the Toolset servers on the go.

Plugins files are only updated as a whole, once plugin updates are installed. If a shortcode is working somewhere it wasn't before, it could be a temporary cache issue.

> No comment form/comments for example on the instaWP staging site (/word2/satsang-honoring-truth-05-10-2024/)

- I have added the blocks for the comments, in the Toolset's content template named "Single Word 2" and the comments and the comments form are showing, correctly.

Note: For the post that you referenced no comments are showing because currently it has no comments.

You can remove the blocks for comments from the WordPress template 'Single item: Word2'.
