[Resolved] Difference of Toolset Layout to Content Template.

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
I would like to understand what is the difference between Toolset Layouts and Toolset Views Content Template.

Solution:
Toolset Layouts (with its Template Layouts and Content Layouts) is different from Content Templates in the editing mode mainly.

Toolset Layouts uses a Drag and Drop Bootstrap backend and front end Layout editor, based on rows and cells, whereas Content Templates either are based on HTML and ShortCodes or a Page Builder's design like Gutenberg.

Note, you can create Content Templates with Toolset Views OR Toolset Blocks, but if you use Toolset Blocks you'd not want to use Toolset Layouts generally.

Tell us what you are trying to do?
I would like to understand what is the difference between Toolset Layouts and Toolset Views Content Template. My website has a Product Template made using Toolset Views Content Template and I see on the tutorial that it uses Blocks. However, I saw another Tutorial that edits the Product Template using Toolset Layout. I am a bit confused about the difference between the two ways of editing the Product Template.

Is there any documentation that you are following?
https://toolset.com/documentation/getting-started-with-toolset/create-templates-to-display-custom-posts/?utm_source=blocksplugin&utm_campaign=product&utm_medium=plugin&utm_term=templates
https://toolset.com/2017/03/how-to-edit-woocommerce-product-templates-with-toolset-starter-theme/

Is there a similar example that we can see? I'd like to be able to edit the Single Product Template / Content Template / Layout from the front end. There seem to be many ways to do this..

What is the link to your site? hidden link

Toolset Layouts (with its Template Layouts and Content Layouts) is different from Content Templates in the editing mode mainly.

Toolset Layouts uses a Drag and Drop Bootstrap Propiertary backend and front end Layout editor, based on rows and cells, whereas Content Templates either are based on HTML and ShortCodes or a Page Builder's design like Gutenberg.

If you use Blocks, you generally don't want to use Layouts.

Additionally, Layouts can let you edit the entire template, content templates only the content (which is usually enough).
But for this to work, it requires a Custom Code integration in your theme we no longer suggest using unless you really require it.

If you require that bit more power than modern web design generally offers, it might be an option, in that case, you are welcome to have a look at such integrated theme here hidden link (feel free to use it, I maintain it actively).

That theme shows how to use Toolset Layouts "the old way" which lets you edit the entire site in one place. The theme is my creation, not something produced by Toolset.

But honestly, it's rather a nostalgia approach, than what modern web design focuses on (with the whole Gutenberg implementations).
If you feel very adventurous you can even use Gutenberg with Layouts, but that is really off track what we suggest to do:

(I am a very adventurous Toolset user apart of supporting it, as you see 😉 )

That site BTW is entirely built with this approach.

If you need to see examples of Layouts used with WooCommerce, you could check out the https://discover-wp.com/ sites, they all still use Layouts.

To summarize, if you never used Toolset Layous yet you will probably not need it in future, and we generally suggest to use Blocks instead.
If you are following a Tutorial or new DOC with Blocks, you should also not use Layouts or worry about, as you won't need it in this case.

I hope this helps and is a source for some experiments, feedback and inspiration, or eventually just "addon information nice to know".

Thanks for digging into Toolset this far!
