I uninstalled Toolset nearly a year ago. Within the past few days I have gotten a big "Toolset plugin cannot connect to toolset.com" warning in the backend of my site.

A search through the database reveals many references to Toolset. I've attempted to clean the db. Removed a lot of orphaned tables and still I find all sorts of Toolset references.

I'm very concerned about the bloat in my database because of this. There's several thousand references. So I have a couple of questions.

1. How do I get rid of this warning. We are taking this site live within the next week and I don't want my client seeing that.
2. How do I clean up my database?
3. Why would all of the content still exist in the database after removing the plugin?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.

It is strange that you're still seeing the warning about Toolset connection, even when the Toolset plugins have been removed for quite some time.

Can you please confirm that no Toolset plugin is active at the moment? If yes, you can install a plugin like "Transients Manager" and see if any expired/cached transients are still added?

Toolset plugins don't automatically remove their data upon deactivation or deletion. If you want to completely remove all Toolset data from the database, it would be best to re-activate all the Toolset plugins that you previously had and then remove the components, manually. Once, removed, you can deactivate and delete the Toolset plugins again.

Toolset Types:
1. You can delete all Custom Fields in Toolset > Custom Fields > Custom Fields Control. This will also delete their database entries.

2. You can delete the unwanted posts from custom post types like you delete native posts or pages. One by one or checking many and pressing "delete" in the bulk actions. Then, later also delete the actual post type, to erase all traces.

3. The same can be repeated from custom taxonomies.

Toolset Views, Blocks, Layouts:
You can delete views, layouts, content Templates in their respective admin screens.

Toolset Forms:
Forms can be deleted the same way as well, from their own management screen, in the Toolset menu.

Toolset Access:
Access rules can be deleted and reset in Toolset > Settings > Access

Database tables:
Toolset adds some custom tables in the database starting with the prefix "_toolset_" and you can delete them after Toolset plugins have been removed.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you need any further assistance around this.

regards,
Waqar

Hi - I installed and ran the plugin that you referenced and I'm still seeing this on the site: hidden link

Even after reinstalling all of the Toolset plugins and then removing all content and then unregistering Toolset I still have this warning on my site.

Help!

Thanks for writing back.

Can you please share the temporary admin login details of the website where this notice can be seen?

I'll also need your permission to download a clone/snapshot of the website, in case it needs to be investigated on a different server.

Please make sure to document what needs to be done to remove the warning. Since this is a staging instance that I have provided you with access to I will need to perform the steps on the live site.

Thank you for sharing the admin access.

During troubleshooting on your website's clone, I noticed that the Toolset connection notice disappears, when the WPML plugins are deactivated.

This seems to be related to how admin notices are included by WPML and you'll find the steps to fix this, in this support thread:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/toolset-plugin-cannot-connect-to-toolset-com/

Note: In case the issue with the notice still persists, you can start a new support ticket at the WPML support forum, so that it can be investigated by the WPML team, accordingly.
