[Resolved] This block has encountered an error… Fields and Text

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The issue here is that the user was getting "This block has encountered an error… " error for their field and text block.

Solution:

In this case the issue was being caused by a plugin conflict in particularly the gutenberg plugin. Once the gutenberg plugin has been disabled the issue was no longer there.

I am trying to:

From this morning I've not been able to make edits to Fields and Text blocks.

As soon as I click on said block (either template or archive) the block becomes non-editable with the message "This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed." Other blocks appear to be working.

I have tried turning off plugins, but that didn't make a difference. So they are back on (for my client's sake).

I also restored the site to last Wednesday when I was able to edit these blocks.

Debug info is below.

Can you let me know which template has the issue ?

Also you will need to disable the jetpack wordpress login in order for me to log into the site to check.

Hi Lelsey,

Thanks for updating the plugins. Would you mind if I took a copy of the site for further checks ? Given that this is a live site I would rather not perform any invasive debugging steps here.

I will be installing the duplicator plugin to grab the site copy.

Hi Lelsey,

Can you keep the jetpack plugin deactivated until we've resolved the issue ?

I'm trying to install the duplicator plugin but its not giving me access to the Add new plugin page.

If you're able to install the plugin for me that will be greatly appreciated.

It seems that the Duplicator plugin isn't compatible with WordPress.com

Is there anything else we can do?

We can try the All in One Migration plugin.

If this doesn't work then I will need to debug on your site itself.

Hi Lesley,

The issue is being caused by the gutenburg plugin.

Once i've disabled this plugin then the Fields and Text block started to work as intended.

Switching off Gutenberg fixed the problem.

My issue is resolved now. Thank you!
