[Resolved] The explanation on export associations is lacking

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

Need explanation on Dashboard-> Toolset-> Export / Import-> Associations:

You can use the default WordPress Export to export associations. Once you import the data using WordPress Importer you will see the available associations here in the Import section.

Solution:

The "Associations" tab is for importing relationship between posts, for example, there are two websites:
Original website + Target website
you can try these:
1) In the Original website, Dashboard-> Tools-> Export
choose option "All content", click button "Download Export File", you will get a XML file

2) In the target website, Dashboard-> Toolset-> Relationships
setup the post type relationships manually, use the same settings as the original website

3) Dashboard-> Tools-> Import
find "WordPress" and click "Run Importer", upload the XML file of step 1)

4) Then go to Dashboard-> Toolset-> Export / Import-> Associations, you will see the items you can import

this message is lacking

No association to import.

You can use the default WordPress Export to export associations. Once you import the data using WordPress Importer you will see the available associations here in the Import section.

I assume the associations get imported only if I "import all" certainly it did not work from merely importing 2 CTP and the media (which would be the normal case IMO)

thanks
