This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
Galleries allow you to choose the image size that is pulled through for the thumbnails and then the full-size image appears when you click on a thumbnail, I would expect the same behavior for a slider but it's pulling through the full-size images for each slide. It would be more efficient to have the option to pull through a smaller thumbnail if the slider has multiple columns (and then pull through the full-size image when clicked, i.e. the same behavior as the galleries).
Solution:
This feature request is escalated to the developers. And will be added in the future.
