[Resolved] Sitemap – two levels. Parent level connecting to Sub-category Page with icons

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The issue here is that the user wanted to have a nested view to list out their taxonomies and their child terms below each parent term

Solution:

You can use nested Views.
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/using-a-child-view-in-a-taxonomy-view-layout/

For example, if you have 3 layers of terms:
GrandParent
- Parent
-- Child

Each has several posts added to it, which you can display in a separate list, that you can reach starting on a Page where only "GrandParent" posts are shown and links to "Parent" and "Child".

To do that:
- create a View that queries your Taxonomy and set a filter as in:
"Select taxonomy terms whose parent is None."
- Add some post information to the loop, or any other data you want to display
- Add the View to any page and see in the front end only data about grand parent terms
- Now add a View which again queries the Taxonomy, this time has a Query filter as:
"Parent is the taxonomy selected by the parent Taxonomy View"
- Again complete the Loop with the information you want to display
- Now insert this View to the loop of the View you created first (and inserted to the page)
- Reload that page and see, that now you have a list of Grandparent Terms and a list of Parent Terms.
- Repeat these steps for the lowest "Child" terms and insert the View to the second created View.

This can be repeated for basically as many times you want.

It allows you to query the data depending on the currently looped content, and link to whatever related page/post/taxonomy term.

You would need to add there HTML and CSS yourself to group and style it like you show, but with the Toolset Views Loop Wizard you should already be able to cut a good part of that as well.

Here is the link for Charities: hidden link

It shows 50 in this Category. When you click on the link, nothing displays.

The rest of the information is in the prior post.

Shane,

I tried a variety of ways to add your code in a button to display for Connect to Website using your link. I researched anchor tags with an image...all without success.

External page: hidden link. I created multiple instances trying to get this right. I cannot get anything to open the URL for the business using taxonomy code.

Button: hidden link

I created this button in the event we are not able to use the Divi Button.

Hi Dianne,

I checked the site again and as you say the category 2nd level isn't working anymore. Not sure what was done but this was working previously.

I need the access to the site once more but I seem to have missplaced it . If you remember what it was could you provide it in the private fields below so I can see whats up on the site?

Please provide FTP as well in the event that I need it so I can just log in and check.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Dianne,

You are correct, level 1 to level 2 was not implemented in the way I did level 2 to 3.

This is now fixed and all the items without a level 2 should now point directly to the search. Secondly I changed it to have 4 columns instead of having 2.

All I did was to use the loop wizard and set the bootstrap column number to 4.

Finally where should the button be linked to ? The connect to website button ?

Please let me know.
Thanks,
Shane

Charities - Level 2 not displaying.png

Shane,

Today, I have kept repeatedly refreshing from Charities to see if they will populate on the page. They still do not. Something is broken for Level 2 when the children reside on Level 2 like they do for Banks, Charities, Construction, etc.

Hi Dianne,

If you click on charity organizations now it should link directly to the Business list as i've adjusted the view for it to do this.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane!
YOU are amazing!!! Amazing.

There are still two other issues on the previous private response:

Please refer Issues in earlier tickets:
1. Issue 1: Linking website taxonomy to a button. I tried every form of anchor tag without success.
Link: hidden link
2. Issue 2: Business List - click on Business to go to actual business listing
hidden link
When you click this link it shows the default page before going to proper view. This is really bad. How do we eliminate the "default" flashing for a moment?

BUTTON should be linked to: hidden link
CHOOSE the DIVI button with the royal blue. NOT the Toolset button...it isn't working.

Missed your Button question: CHOOSE the DIVI Button (delete all other buttons)

BUTTON for hospital: hidden link
CHOOSE the DIVI button with the royal blue.
Your welcome to delete all other buttons.

default page feature large image displaying.png

Large Default Page Feature Image is displayed

When clicking from Business List - Level 4 page: hidden link

This is not supposed to be displayed at all. Just the Divi View. This large featured image default page looks very bad.

How do we block/prevent this?

Hi Dianne,

Just getting back to this one.

1. The taxonomy button issue.

So I see where you are using the Divi button builder to create the button, unfortunately our shortcodes don't work in the divi button builder so you will need to create the button manually .

Take a look at the link below on how to do this.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8357058/how-to-make-a-href-link-look-like-a-button

2. For the flashing of the original template.

Not much we can do about this since we are hiding the items using css. The better way would be to use a function to remove them but for this you will need to contact the divi support forum for the best advise.

Please let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks,
Shane
