[Waiting for user feedback] Relating 2 or more posts of the same content type

I am creating a searchable collection for a museum site. I have created a custom post type for Collection Items. I would like to have a way to display related collection items. For example, relate a painting to a sketch that was a study for the painting. If I try to use a Post Reference field to select posts related to the current Collection Item, I am not able to select Collection Item as the post type, so it looks like that field doesn't work to relate posts of the same content type. Do I need to use tags or something?

Is there any documentation that you are following?
I've looked at https://toolset.com/course-lesson/displaying-related-posts/ and https://toolset.com/documentation/legacy-features/views-plugin/using-post-reference-fields-to-display-information-from-a-related-post/ but these are both how to relate posts from different content types.

Is there a similar example that we can see?

Toolset post relationships offers one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many post realtionshp.

Toolset also offers repeating field group - that forms one-to-many post relationshp between the current post and the repeating field group items you will add.

These examples show how to relate 2 different post types to each other. I want to show Collection Items that are related to the current Collection Item being displayed. If you use Post relationships, selecting "Collection Item" as the First Post Type will not allow you to select as the Second Post Type.

Can I have admin access details and problem URL and you can tell me on what post/page you want to display what collection items and where its setup in the backend admin?

I would also eventually need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site. Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed.
