Tell us what you are trying to do?
Set up a new site
Is there any documentation that you are following?
I've read loads of your material on Blocks but I am still unclear. Apparently Blocks is replacing Views, but blocks features have also been incorporated into Views, which kind of contradicts that. What is the difference now between the Blocks plugin and the Views plugin? If they both do blocks, why would I choose the Blocks plugin over the Views plugin?

Apparently Layouts and Blocks shold not be used together. Does that mean the plugin named Blocks or the WP feature named blocks? Is it OK to use Layouts with Views, even though it has blocks? Or does that just mean that you shouldn't use blocks on a Layouts page?

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply incorporate the blocks functionality into the Views plugin instead of having two plugins with overlapping features?

Is there a similar example that we can see?
No
What is the link to your site? not public

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Views and Blocks are essentially the same plugins. Blocks uses views as its base and builds on it to incorporate the wordpress gutenburg editor.

So a difference is that you can create a new view directly from your posts rather than going to Views -> Add New View. Blocks also comes with a number of block elements that are meant to work in the wordpress gutenburg editor which mages it easier to use Toolset from GUI standpoint. See Screenshot

Essentially blocks is being geared towards a more user friendly way to display your content loops without having to use any HTML or CSS and can be done through the gutenburg editor.

Please let me know if I was able to provide clarity for you.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi there,

Thnk you for this, but it is still not very clear. By "essentially the same plugin", do you mean they ARE the same, or they are actually different? It sounds as if you are saying Blocks comes with a shortcut to create a new view that Views 3.0 doesn't have. And that Blocks comes with block elements that the Views 3.0 doesn't have.

It would be really helpful to have a feature comparison list between Blocks and Views 3.0, because it sounds as if Blocks has some features that Views 3.0 doesn't have. And the download page suggests that Views 3.0 has features Blocks doesn't have.

I understand the reasoning behind introducing blocks functionality, but I am still not clear what similarities or differences there are between Blocks and Views 3.0. As I said before, if they both do blocks, why would I choose the Blocks plugin over the Views plugin?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Christopher,

I went ahead and sought some clarity on this one for you.

As mentioned previously that these plugins are essentially the same. The only difference is that the Block editor comes with the classic editor disabled by default and Views comes with the block editor disabled by default.

In either case you can switch between the editors in either versions by going to Toolset -> Settings.

Thanks,
Shane
