[Resolved] Parent layout does not appear on the pages

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The issue here is that the customer wanted to know why his Parent layout wasn't showing up on his assign a layout option on his page.

Solution:
Parent Layouts are only available for selection by child layouts, so you won't be able to select the parent layout from the post.

The only layouts that you are able to select are the child ones. Usually a child layout has a parent layout already attached to it.

Ciao, I followed this guide:
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/hierarchical-layouts/?utm_source=layoutsplugin&utm_campaign=layouts&utm_medium=layout-kind-icon&utm_term=help-link#typical-site-layout-using-a-parent-layout-and-several-child-layouts

in the list there is no layout created "parent admin section" (see attached images)
while other Layouts are there.

thanks

Hi Massimo,

Thank you for contacting our support forum.

The parent layout wouldn't show up because the parent layout is for use only with a child layout. So the only layouts that would show here are the ones that are child layouts.

So a child layout is attached to a parent layout.

Please let me know if this clears things up for you.

Thanks,
Shane

how can I assign the parent / child layout to 5/6 pages?

Hi Massimo,

Ok I'm happy I was able to help you understand this. So first you need to assign the child layout to the Parent layout that you created.

Then you will need to assign that child layout to each of the posts that you have 🙂

For additional background information on how the parent/child layouts work you can take a look at the link below.

Please let me know if this helps.
Thanks,
Shane
