Hi,
I have looked in the old tickets but not found anything that is quite similar to the issue I am experiencing.
All CPT pages on the site works well, but none of the 'pages' pages are working but generate a 'page does not exist' error.
When deactivating all plugins and activating all pages in one go, the opposite is true, ie all 'pages' pages work but none of the CPT pages.
The next thing I did was to deactivate app plugins again and started to activate the plugins one by one and nothing changed - the 'pages' pages were displaying but all CPT pages displayed 'page does not exist'
I then deactivated all and then activated all in one go and now the CPT pages are OK but the 'pages' pages do not work.
Any ideas?
Is there any documentation that you are following?
Is there a similar example that we can see?
What is the link to your site?

I have created a temporary access to teh site
user: toolset

Can you try resetting the site's permalinks by going to Settings -> Permalinks and switch it to the default permalink setup. Then go to any of your pages and try to preview it on the frontend.
If this works then you can go back to the permalink settings and set it back to PostName and hit save.
Please let me know if it works after following these steps.
Thanks,
Shane
Hi Shane,
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
When setting it to default, the subscribe link in the header menu (set by Ubermenu plugin) is working but the links in the footer (elementor template) do not.
When switching back, all is as before, ie CPT pages work but regular pages do not.
Best regards / john
Can you temporarily disable all your non-toolset plugins and try again?
After disabling the plugins please try resetting the permalinks and let me know the results. If the problem still remains we will need to debug further, even though an issue like this isn't being caused by any of our plugins.
Hi,
I am afraid the problem remains.
Deactivating all plugins apart from toolset plugins and having reset the permalinks, I get a 404 on both CPT pages and regular pages - see attachments a & b.
And if I do the reverse, ie deactivate all toolset plugins, I get the 'page not found' message - see attachment c & d.
Also, for your info, I tried over the weekend to create another custom post type. Not a problem to create the CPT but I could not access any page created in the CPT - only got the 'page not found' message.
Any other ideas?
Many thanks for your help.
Kind regards / john
Would it be ok if I grabbed a copy of the site to run and test locally? This way I can perform a few more debugging steps without interfering with your live site.
I now see that your pages redirect to the homepage rather than giving the page not found. However based on the symptoms its leaning heavily towards the permalinks issue given that it works with the default permalinks.
Please let me know if I can go ahead and grab the site copy.
Good morning Shane
You are more than welcome to grab a copy. It would be absolutely fantastic if you could find out what is causing the error.
I also got a screen grab from elementor that may help in the trouble shooting - hidden link
Do you need FTP access?
Many thanks for your help.
Best regards
Hi Shane,
For your info, I went back to an older version of the site and there all is working as it should. I therefore contacted the hosting company who think that there may be some files missing and they have offered to if they can find out if anything is missing.
I do not want to waste your time so suggest that you put this on hold until I hear back from them.
By the way, should anyone ask you about a good host, siteground is an absolutely amazing company with a service level that is ALMOST as good as toolset's service - ie they are very good.
Best regards /
Hi Shane,
Siteground has gone through the site, checked for missing files and other potential errors and still do not know why it is not working. Neither do Elementor which is the other building block I have used together with Toolset.
Unless you have some ideas that you think are worth trying, it seems as the best option is to go back to the previous version of the site and start replicating the amends while continuously checking all types of pages are working.
There are no dramatic changes between the 'old' and the 'new' site so not the end of the world.
I do not want to waste your time but great if you could let me have your thoughts before closing the ticket.

Thank you for the update. I'm still at a loss as to why this isn't working. Its obvious to me to rewrite url module is enabled on your server because the "Pretty Links" work for the custom post types. Its possible that some code is rewriting the URL base for the Pages but i'm unsure.
Given that you have a recent backup you can go ahead and restore it then update your backup to your current site version.
However if you can think of anything that was done to the Pages post type I would also give that a double check. Perhaps even going as far as checking the .htaccess file for the site to ensure that there aren't any URL rewrite rules there for the Pages base.
Hi,
Checked the .htaccess but all looks OK so it is back to work.
Many thanks for your help in trying to find a solution - much appreciated.
I am closing the ticket and wish you a nice day.
