[Resolved] No UI for adding terms to new taxonomy

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The issue here is that when the user is adding a new taxonomy some of the UI elements are missing.

Solution:

In this user's case it was the mbstring php module not active. I would recommend contacting the hosting provider and asking them to enable this module

I am trying to:
Add a taxonomy called "Document Types" or "Document Categories" that is used with the custom Document type.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
This can only be seen from the WP admin

I expected to see:
Screens similar to those shown in your documentation at https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/create-custom-taxonomies/

Instead, I got:
The section "Post Types to be used with this Taxonomy" is completely empty. No way to associate with a type, unless done from the type. The "Labels" section is also empty, with no way to add new labels. See uploaded screenshot.

Hi Todd,

Thank you for contacting our support forum.

As a precaution I would like to ensure that this isn't being caused by a plugin and as such I would recommend that you temporarily disable all your non-toolset plugins and try again.

Thanks,
Shane

All plugins besides Toolset disabled. The same problem persists. Screenshots attached.

What can I try next?

Hi Todd,

Would it be possible for me to get a duplicator package from the website so that I can check it out on my local server ?

I would like to ensure that this is not caused by a server issue.

Thanks,
Shane

Do whatever you need. We're backed up nightly and nobody's touching the site but you until we can get this issue resolved. Install any plugin you need. If you need a database dump, I can help with that. Everything else, you have access to.

Hi Todd,

I created the copy and it works fine on my localhost.

Could you update to PHP 7.0 and see if this issue still remains?

Thanks,
Shane

Good morning Shane.

PHP 7.0 gives me a white screen of death. I also tried 5.6 and the same issue occurs there. Any other ideas?

Hi Todd,

The white screen.

Could you enable the wordpress debugging by following the instructions below.
This way we can see what error is being generated.

Thanks,

I set WP_DEBUG to true while running PHP 5.6 and got the attached screenshot on the Taxonomy admin page. See attachment and let me know if that helps. I'll change to PHP 7.0 shortly and see if I can get an error message on the white screen.

Let me know if the message in the screenshot helps.

Thanks.

Hi Todd,

It seems that the mbstring php module isn't enabled.

Could you contact your hosting provider and ask them to enable this module for you ?

Thanks,
Shane

It looks like that did the trick. I see little convenience features in here now that I didn't even know were broken. Thanks for your help!
