I am trying to: click on the attachment page link for an image in the media library
Link to a page where the issue can be seen: you need to login in as admin (or add a link to an attachment page to an image in a post or page) but should be able to reproduce on any Toolset Starter Theme site with Layouts enabled.
I expected to see: a WordPress attachments page
Instead, I got: the typical layouts error page that says there's no layout for the content type
So I tried to create a layout for the media content type and quickly realized that the fields and views button doesn't offer access to most of the things on a standard media attachment page. How are other sites handling this? I know not everyone uses the attachment page but it does occasionally add value and I was surprised to see this standard WordPress feature broken / missing.
Attachements, or Media, are not very well integrated for edit with Toolset.
Some things simply do not work there also for WordPress limitations.
I am aware of the issue that relates espclifically to Toolset Starter.
Toolset Starter is still available in the Downloads areas and we still support Bug Solutions for it, although no new Features so far.
I am aware of that problem and have a solution in a develop version, but it includes changes related to this that might affect other parts, I am not yet sure and need to do more tests.
I will update you here about the process of this.
The real issue here is that Toolset Starter shouldn't force a layout over any content, and especially not over Media (attachments).
This is hardcoded in the Theme, and then only you can do right now is create a Layout and add a Post Content call.
Bind to all Media, and then revisit the attachment pages.
But please make some test locally first if this is a large site with several important media.
I am honestly not sure what happens elsewhere when you have Layouts assigned to the Media.
By my knowledge and logic thinking, nothing. But I still suggest to be safe, instead of sorry.
We suggest to use other Themes if possible, but I will try to fix this issue soon in a Release. We need to be sure to ensure backwards compatibility.
Thank you.
It sounds like I need to start looking for a replacement for Toolset Starter Theme. I know there was some discussion on a blog post by Amir a while back about which theme(s) to focus on in the future but I don't recall a final recommendation.
Is there a free, bootstrap based theme that supports full Layouts integration (use Layouts for header, footer, menu area and all content types) that Toolset recommends we migrate to?
I have more than 20 sites using Toolset Starter Theme so I'd like to not have to migrate away from it but it sounds like it is not being developed and that support might eventually stop(?) so what works as thoroughly with Layouts as it does?
We will not just stop support for it.
As elaborated we will continue support BUG solutions, and also the Support Personnel will proceed helping with how to questions.
We just do not plan to "make concurrence" to other Theme Builders, it is very simple. It is not what we really focus on, and we believe that others do it as good and eventually better than us 🙂
Toolset is meanwhile greatly integrated with almost anything out there, and if not we usually try to make it happen.
That is why we shift away the focus from a Theme.
This does not mean that we abandon it, an with it, Users like you.
If you are looking for replacement, we do not officially suggest anything else but another Theme of your choice, eventually an integrated one.
But I know what you want, you want the power of Layouts and not just edit the content with it.
We do not officially suggest or support it, but have you tried something like this?

I created it for teaching purposes. The Code is very well documented and it integrates with Toolset the full way.
Honestly, when I want to use Layouts the full way, I prefer to create my own ver minimal scratch (yes, this is not what I would do after administrating so man y sites) - and build on this.
Toolset starter has already too many settings for my taste 🙂
To conclude:
- we will not abandon our theme and solve problems
- Support will continue to answer questions in regard
- we will just not focus on theme developments in this regard.
Please let me know if you need more details.
