Tell us what you are trying to do?

I need to build a user portal where users can login and see their assets and any work due on those assets.
The post types will be:
Customers
Assets
Jobs
Inspections

The customer wants multiple users.

I understand if they had one user per customer I could restrict the content by making them owner of the posts but how do I restrict the content to a groups of users?

We will be creating the users, there will be no signup on the website.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,

You can try with Toolset Access plugin, create a 'post groups', add some specific users into this 'post groups', and assign this 'post groups' to the specific "Customers" posts.

See our document:

Thank you, this looks like a short term solution.

However if we were to expand the portal we would need to create a post group for each company, is this correct?

Yes, you are right, you can different "post group" for each company, and assign multiple wordpress users into that "post group"
