I have a WooCommerce site with custom fields added to the Product CPT, plus two additional custom post types, and all three custom post types have text fields that need to be populated with 500+ characters of formatted text - for over 200 products. The texts were originally written and formatted in MS Word, and I also have those texts converted to HTML text files. I'm looking for (hoping for) some advice on how to best automate this import task.

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

Have you checked the following Doc that shows how you can import the content using CSV:

Yes, of course. I fully understand how to import data via CSV, and do that all the time. However, to be more clear about my problem, let me just concentrate on the WooCommerce product description field: the product descriptions I want to import are contained in over two hundred individual text files, for the more than two hundred products. What I want to know is if this particular import need can be automated, as I don't want to have to copy-and-past over 200 times. And actually, since there are two additional custom fields whose intended content is also in individual text files, I'm wanting to avoid 600+ manual copy-and-paste actions...

There is no such native feature available.

You can import the content either from CSV or do it manually. But in your case you just acknowledge that product description will be coming form some file, then even using CSV import as well there is no such feature.

In this case, as it's a pure custom requirement, you will have to write custom script that should read your description file or consult a professional. You can find the list of Toolset certified contractors with the following link:
