How do I show hierarchical taxonomy as a widget (under Appearance -> Widgets).

Tell us what you are trying to do?

I would like to show hierarchical taxonomy as a widget in my custom post sidebar area. Similar to how one might show the Category widget in a blog sidebar.

I don't see an existing widget to do this.

There is no such built-in widget to display custom taxonomies, though there is a proposal (an old proposal) to update the categories widget to work with custom taxonomies.

You can use a plugin such as this one to register such a widget: https://wordpress.org/plugins/list-custom-taxonomy-widget/
