Tell us what you are trying to do? I add a new view and then I choose the post and follow the steps.. it seems to be the classic editor.. I want to actually bypass this and do it in block directly but I can't seem to .. so I have to go through this process and then I add a query and then I go to the Loop Wizard and then it takes me to the Content Template where I have to edit with the Block editor.. and this creates a content template and I end up with a block editor with a shortcode.. so I delete this shortcode and start the whole view process again.. and save this.. but I know this is creating a content template and a connected view.. I just want to create a view in a block editor and save it.. what am I doing wrong? Please advise

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?

What is the link to your site?hidden link

Something doesn't sound right in that workflow.

First, please go to Toolset > Settings and check the Editing experience: it should include Blocks to be able to create views using the block editor.

What should happen is that if you then add a new page and insert a View block you will be offered the chance to create a new View.

You'll be asked to specify the output format (e.g. a grid) as well as the content (the post type to query) and whether to include pagination, search filters etc.

This should all happen within the block editor, and completing these steps will then let you design the output of the view using blocks (while still editing the same page).

If you are still seeing different then I may need to take a look at your site so I can see for myself.

Let me set up a private reply now in case you need to share access credentials with me.

You can't see the Views menu because under Toolset > Settings you have only the Blocks interface enabled.

As a new Toolset user we would expect you to be using the block editor rather than the classic editor for Views (learning that would just be a distraction you don't need, unless there was a very good reason for you to use the classic editor).

I also note that you have Layouts active, which you really should not, it is not intended for new projects, only for existing projects, so please disable that unless, again, you have a good reason to use it. You probably don't need Framework Installer or Module Manager installed either.

Temporarily enabling the classic editing experience (so that I can go to Toolset > Views) I see that you have several Views created with the Block editor (which should be edited on the pages where you created them) and one View called "test" which has been made with the classic editor and is inserted on a page "Test".

I reverted the settings to use the Block editor and went to make a new page "Nigel" for testing.

But then I immediately noticed an issue.

You are using something to modify the editor, as I can only insert "Classic Paragraph" blocks on the page and not other block types.

I'm not sure where it comes from. You have the Classic Editor plugin installed, but I don't think it behaves like that, so it is probably another plugin or your theme which is responsible.

Anyway, whatever it is, it won't let you insert a View block to be able to add a View using the block editor.

(You can insert an existing View using the Fields and Views button of this Classic Paragraph block, but that's certainly not what is intended.)

Whatever is disabling the normal Blocks interface is preventing you from creating Views with the block editor.

Hi Nigel

Thanks for the prompt response and update..:-)..

As a new Toolset user we would expect you to be using the block editor rather than the classic editor for Views (learning that would just be a distraction you don't need, unless there was a very good reason for you to use the classic editor).

Let me get this... so I don't really need to use the Loop Wizard and try to understand all that .. Loop Wizard. etc...?!!..;-)..

That's great news.. I was wondering why you have 2 options.. I assumed the classic editor had more flexibility and I was trying to figure out what exactly it was!!

I also note that you have Layouts active, which you really should not, it is not intended for new projects, only for existing projects, so please disable that unless, again, you have a good reason to use it. You probably don't need Framework Installer or Module Manager installed either.

Thanks for this info.. will disable it asap.

You are using something to modify the editor, as I can only insert "Classic Paragraph" blocks on the page and not other block types.

If I have to create a new page I think I can add other block types.. it's only when I try to create a view in the classic editor and then go to the Content Template within the View Creation view and edit the block editor. But let me try this and confirm with you.

So basically I don't need to try and be a geek and use the classic editor view... right?..;-)... I didn't want to use it but I thought it was something more technical and had more flexibility.. I am glad if I don't ever have to use it.. but would appreciate if you could confirm this.

Thanks again Nigel.. you've been of great help.

Regards,
Alim

Sorry to bump this conversation.. but I just wanted a confirmation if my currently settings are fine.. please check screenshot

I have only these enabled

  • Toolset Access
  • Toolset Blocks
  • Toolset Maps
  • Toolset Types

I will delete the others once you confirm that I don't need them as a new user... Also could advise me why the Toolset Framework Installer does not display a DELETE option while all the other deactived plugins allow me this?

If you need, feel free to do what you want on the staging site for which I have passed you the credentials... It's a temp staging site and it doesn't really matter what happens on it.. it's only for testing..

Alim

You'll likely want to use Types and Blocks on all sites, and then you can optionally add the others if you need them.

So Maps if you want to add maps, Access if you want to control the roles that have rights to view and publish and edit content.

I see the problem with Framework Installer missing a delete button, which is odd, I'm passing that on to the developer, I'm guessing it only happens in the context of multisite; you'll need to delete it using FTP for now.

Back to Blocks and Views. So the classic Views editor worked on the basis of adding shortcodes for dynamic content to an HTML editor, and you could use the Loop Wizard to help generate the required markup for different output formats.

We are transitioning Views to replicate the same functionality but using the block editor, so the most you are likely to need is the odd CSS tweak, and I'd say we are about two thirds of the way there. For most people in most use cases that will be enough, although there could be times when you want to do something very particular that can only be done with the classic editor for now, but you should cross that bridge when you come to it, no point in learning about it if you don't need to.

If you try to do something with Blocks and can't you can raise a support ticket and say you are happy to be shown how to do it with the classic editor if it is not possible with Blocks.

My issue is resolved now. Thank you!

Thanks for fixing the issues.. am a bit relieved that I don't have to worry anymore with the classic editor options..;-)..
