Hi scott,

If you have the user role editor installed then this could quite be the issue initially.

If this is installed then I would recommend that you disable it and then check your permissions again.

Thanks,
Shane

NO - I don't have URE installed.
Please read what i said CAREFULLY
"I'm thinking maybe just not using access and trying something like the plugin "user role editor" instead."

Access is NOT working and I'm getting very frustrated with this - you haven't presented a solution for me.
I re-set access settings, de-activated and re-activated and still the same problem "submit for review" when it should say "publish" and CPT's that guests shouldn't see but can.
Can you see this link? you shouldn't be able to.

I de-activated all plugins - and still the same.

I can't possibly be your only client on wpengine - they don't allow duplicator plugin.
PLEASE get me a solution!
I'm subscribed to the Agency level and this is not acceptable.
Get someone else to help me if you can't.

Thanks.

Hi Scott,

I'm trying to see how best I can get a solution working for you.

The reason why i've asked to try a few things is because I need this in order to approach our 2nd tier supporters.

What would likely happen is that I would need to escalate this ticket.

There is a workaround I would like to try before suggesting it to you, however i tried logging into the site again but it seems the user account password has been changed.

Could you provide the login password once more. Also could you keep the credentials active until we fully resolve the issue because when I do escalate this ticket the 2nd tier supporters will need access to the site as well.

Thanks,
Shane

Yes I will provide credentials - but this reply isn't private.
Don't you need to set reply as private?
Thanks.

Hi Scott,

Here are the private fields.

Does the previous editor role credentials still work? If not then can you provide a new set?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Scott,

If its convenient for you, you can set your permissions in the default post type and then set your other permissions to copy the permissions from the default post type.

This seems to work fine, however i will be enquiring to our 2nd tier supporters for more assistance on this one.

Is there a way to use any website copying tool on the WP Engine sites ?

Please let me know as a copy of the site will greatly help with this issue.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

setting permissions in the default post type and then setting other permissions to copy the permissions from the default post type is not a great option as that would mean guests couldn't read default posts as I don't want them to have access to certain CPTS.

I can download a "back up point" from WP engine.
Please look at this article and tell me if that will work for you.

from the article:
"These backups, which run automatically each night and can also be manually initiated through the User Portal, contain all of the WordPress core files, your themes and plugins, and database."

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

If you send me a manual backup i.e database and files then I should be able to restore it here for further testing.

For now you can install the user role plugin as another workaround to get the permissions set.

As this is quite a strange issue that we need to debug thoroughly to resolve.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

The private fields have been enabled once more for you to provide the backup

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Scott,

Thank you for the backup of the site, however i'm not seeing in the zip file where the database sql file was provided.

Could you send this as well.

Also have you made any progress using the User Role plugin as a temporary workaround ?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

I'll have to contact wpengine and find out how to get what you need.
User Role editor plugin is not going to work for me I found out after much back and forth with developer. One can't deny guests viewing all posts in a CPT...it can only be done on a per post basis.

I'll get back to you soon.

Thanks,
Scott.

Hi Scott,

Any word on the database backup as yet?

I've enabled the private fields for you to provide the sql files.

Thanks,
