When i duplicate a content and edititing the NEW content template, it changes all the same settings in the post i just dublicated from...
And that messed upp all my settings from the content in the first view...
Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.
Can you please tell me what settings exactly you mean it changes?
Do you mean that when you duplicate the content template, when you edit the duplicate content template the setting of content template where content template is assigned to any post type is changed?
If i duplicate a Content template, give it a new name.
Open the new content template (the dublicate)
I edit the content templat i just created from duplication . ALL settings i change in the new post (content template) changes
all settings in both posts.
Even tho they have different ID's
Ex.
I have a content template id (353301) with masonry layout.
This template i duplicate to a new template/post (id: 354100).
when i then change layout to grid in the new post its changes the layout ALSO in the first post (id 353301)
It changes ALL settings. Typo, colors, images etc..
Look.
It doesnt madder if its view, container, header etc i change.
If i have duplicate a content template it changes the settings in both content templates.
If i change Header in template 1, it also change the Header in template 2
If i change Everything in template 1, its also chnges everything in template 2
This ONLY happens when duplicate any template. I dont talk about just within one template and thats content.
I talk about two differnet templates where one of them is a duplicated post
I just tested with my test site and created one Content template with blocks and added few blocks and configured some styling options like text and background color.
Then I have duplicate the content template and made changes to this duplicate content template and when I check the original one it holds the original content template.
This is the post loaded with original content template:

And this is the post loaded with the duplicate content template:
=> hidden link
It seems there is something misunderstanding going on or something I do not reproduce yet.
If you can share access details and share information what content template I should look at it and then I will try to duplicate it on your install.
*** Please make a FULL BACKUP of your database and website.***
I would also eventually need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site. Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed.
I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.
I will not give you access to the site and try, becaus i need to work on it and dont whant anything be messed up. Even if i take backup it is timeconsuming to fix back.
You have to take me on my word that there is a problem even if you dont get any of the same issues. (your urls dont work)
Yes, i think still there is something that make this not working properly when duplicate!
i have now recorded my screen to show you what happens.
How can i send this to you.
Its the layout in this case that is changed on both tempaltes. Not content as H1, H2 etc.
Hi again,
as i speaked to Nigel i will answer here aswell
As you could see in the video there is an issue as i said. There should be any warning about this IF its intended to be like this.
In my opinion, i think that when cloning/duplicating a post there should -not- be any dependence on any other posts.
Then it would have to be called "mirror post" 🙂
So every time i need to make a new content template that looks the same as my first template i have to do all from scratch and that's time consuming especially when there is a cloning feature.
We just confirm with our Devs and we got the news that if you want to duplicate the Content Template that should contain a duplicate copy of the original View, in that case - you should try to follow the following steps:
- duplicate the CT and edit the duplicate
- delete the existing View block
- insert a View block and choose to use an existing View and select the required View
- choose to edit a copy of that View rather than edit the original
this is kind of backwords. and make no sence. Then Why have a duplicate if i must to all those steps to "unconnect" the settings from its "parent".
Then this is not a duplicate, its a mirroring.
A duplicate is a stand alone copy of an post. I my hones opinion.
Feature-wish:
The duplicate function should ask me to change name on both view and content template and then unconnect it all from its parent. and the new copy is stand alone. just like "copy to new draft"

When you edit your content template using Blocks, you will see a Block navigation bar when you click on the icon as shared with above screenshot where it will list all the blocks added to your template. You should select your block from there or from content template itselt and click on the "More options" icon available with every block that where you can find the option to remove the block.
