Hi there!

I'm trying to get the distance filter to work on my site (see hidden link). However, it looks hideous and when I try to use my location, the thing breaks. Can you tell me what's going wrong?

Thanks!

When I try to use a location for the search the map area tries to update but goes blank.

It looks like you inserted the View to generate this map inside a page you made with Elementor.

Could you try inserting the View on a test page without using the page builder and see if there is still a problem using it?

In which case it would be a problem with the View itself rather than a compatibility problem with Elementor.

Let me know what you see please (you might share that page link with me).

Hi there Nigel.

I tried it, it doesn't work :). Here's the link to the test page: hidden link

OK, so it seems to be something wrong with the View itself.

Can I take a look at your site?

Thanks for that.

I took a quick look, but I couldn't spot the problem.

I made a very simple test View and inserted it on another test page and it still doesn't work.

I need to clarify something with the Maps developer, but I won't be able to do that until the morning, so I will update you again then.

Thanks for your patience.

No problem. Glad it can be fixed! I hope so at least 🙂

It seems that we have a problem with this feature.

I created my own test site online to demonstrate the problem and discuss with a fellow supporter and with the developer, and we all had different experiences with it failing more than 50% of the time, depending on location, browser etc.

The developer thinks it may be an intermittent problem with the Google API, and we don't handle it failing correctly, so he needs to take a deeper look.

I've shared all the details with him, and I'm escalating this thread.

Note there will be a Maps update probably on Monday, possibly Tuesday, but that has already gone through testing and it won't include any changes related to this.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for looking into it Nigel! Can you give me an estimation on how long it will take before this problem is fixed?

Greetings

I should have a better idea early next week when the developer has had a chance to look at it, so I'll update you then.

Hi there Nigel!

Any progress yet on the matter? I'm really looking forward implementing maps on my site!

Greetings,

I don't see any progress in the internal ticket, yet, I'm afraid.

I went back to your site to double-check what is or is not working, and it seems to me that the Use my location button works in Chrome, but fails completely in FF (the developer edition, at least).

I checked again on my own test site and it appears to show the same.

I also checked your site on my (android) phone, and found the same, the FF browser fails, but Chrome works.

Is that the problem here for you? That it doesn't work in some particular browser?

Hi there Nigel. Unfortunately, the problem still occurs in my browser. I'm also using Chrome.

Hmm. Chrome is the only browser it works with for me (screenshot).

In any case, the developer stated that we need to improve how we handle when the browser fails to provide the location coordinates, so I don't have anything more to share until the developer has done that work.

I'll get notified when that's the case, and I will share with you.
