date picker doesn't stick

I am trying to: use date picker

I expected to see: date saved

Instead, I got: date isn't retained on submit. after trying several times it works - if changing month, day and year, i have to first save year, then month and date. but still takes several times to make it work. unable to just type my date in the box.
