[Resolved] Custom Field Search does not work in Japanese

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
It is not possible to search for Japanese sentences in custom fields using the Relevanssi integration.

Solution:
That is correct, it is a limitation of Relevanssi (and applies equally to Chinese).

See below.

I made a custom post type with some custom fields. One of those custom fields is single line.

There is data with values in Japanese in that field. That data was not searched even with the relevanssi plugin.

Because relevanssi can not index sentences in Japanese.

Do you know how to solve this problem?

Hi there

Toolset integrates with Relevanssi to enable custom searches to cover custom field values, and we don't have another solution for that.

(There may be other plugins that would work with custom fields for standard WordPress searches that support Japanese, but which are not integrated with Views custom searches.)

You are sure that Relevanssi doesn't work with Japanese? If that is the case there is not much we can do about that, you would need to push Relevanssi to support it.

Hi!

Probably yes. In the discussion of relevancsi's user manual, there is the following comment.

from: hidden link

"If the Chinese text is in UTF-8, Relevanssi can read it and index it. However, Relevanssi simply does not work with Chinese or Japanese: these languages do not separate words in a way Relevanssi understands. Thus, even if you could index the contents, they wouldn’t make any sense. So unfortunately you have to forget about using Relevanssi with Chinese or Japanese."

So, I think that relevanssi does not support Japanese. I'll push Relevanssi to support it.

Thanks!
