Hi - I'm trying to create a copy of an existing view on a new page and change the filter criteria that is being used, but it is not working correctly. The steps I'm following:
- I go to new page where I want to create copy of the existing view.
- I insert the original view.
- I choose "Work with a copy" and rename the view in the sidebar.
- I change the filter criteria being used for the view.
- I save the page and choose "View Page"
When I do this, the page comes up blank where the view should be. When I return to design view, the view is replaced with an error message that says "View does not exist." However, when I go to Toolset/Views in the dashboard, the new view is listed there. I have tried this multiple times and continually get this result. A page where the original view is working is hidden link The page where I am trying to create a copy of the view and change the filter criteria to use Course Category="CSS" is hidden link
I tried to submit this ticket earlier but received and error message when I did - it does not look like it got submitted so I'm trying again. Sorry if this is duplicated. Thanks.
Hello and thank you for contacting the Toolset support.
I wonder if you are using the latest version of the Toolset plugins? Can you please paste your Toolset Debug information in the Debug information field?

I run a small test in a clean install with the latest releases and I was not able to reproduce the same issue. I did notice an issue though. When I choose to work with the copy, the query filter is lost. But after entering a new query filter, the new view renders in the frontend correctly.
Would you like to let me check your website and reproduce the issue there, I want to see what results I would get? Your next reply will be private to let you share credentials safely. ** Make a database backup before sharing credentials. **
I would also like to know if it would be fine to take a copy of your website for further debugging?
This way, I can check both issues further before any eventual escalation to the developers.
Hello Joel, and thank you for the credentials. I was able to reproduce the same issues. When I first used the view and chosen to edit a copy, I was able to add a query filter on the taxonomy. But after saving and reloading the editor, I had the "View does not exist" error.
Then I was not able to use the copied view. I was then able to copy it again, but it did not work later.
I am suspecting issues, either with the theme or another plugin. Can you check if this issue appears when:
- Only Toolset plugins are activated. It will tell us if there is an interaction issue with another plugin.
- The theme is set to a WordPress default like Twenty-Twenty. It will tell us if there is an interaction issue with your theme.
If the problem disappears, start activating one at a time to track where the incompatibility is produced.
IF this does not reveal the cause of the issue, I'll need to take a copy of your website for further debugging. Let me know if that's ok with you.
Hi Jamal,
Thanks for you response. I tried disabling all plugins and switching back to the twenty-twenty theme and the problem of the view saying "View does not exist" when you first copy it still exists.
It's fine to take a copy of my site to debug this. Thanks!
Hello and my apologies for the late reply, but I do not work on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I wanted to take a copy of your website, unfortunately, the provided credentials are not working for me anymore. Can you update the password and share it in your next reply? Or you may want to build a Duplicator copy of the site(please exclude the uploads folder to reduce the size of the copy)?
Hello Jamal. I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to check-in on this issue. I tried to create a new view and repeat this process (copying it on a different page, giving it a different name) and it didn't give me the error View not Found. Which is good. However, it seems that Views on my site are not working correctly overall. For instance, the new view I created was called Crystal Reports Course List View and I created it on the page hidden link. It displays correctly there - with one "course" per row and only one column in the output. However, when I use that same view again on a different (but structurally almost identical) page, much of the formatting inside the view is lost. The formatting of the container control is lost, it displays 3 columns instead of one and all three courses, as a result, are on the same row. (see hidden link) I've tried clearing the cache for the view, clearing my browser cache, using a different browser and always get different results when re-using a view. I copied this view, changed the criteria, renamed it CSS Course List View and re-used it on two other pages and the same thing happened. You can see those results at: hidden link and hidden link It seems to be completely hit or miss whether it will work or not. Thanks for your help.
Hi Jamal - I think you can close this issue. The problem still exists with the original view, but I found if I create a new view, I am able to copy it and with a little finessing (I have to go back to the original page the view was created in and Save it again to get it to refresh) the newly copied view does then appear correctly on the new page. Not perfect, but it works so I am moving forward with that. Thanks again for your help.
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you are not blocked anymore and you can continue building your website.
Our 2nd Tier has escalated an exception to the developers about this issue. Hopefully, this will reveal something that will improve the Block based views. As you may know, the Gutenberg editor is still is in infancy and still evolving.
All the best,
Jamal
