I am trying to: Make it so that every new post of a custom post type has comments enabled by default.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

I expected to see: Comments section on by default.

Instead, I got: I had to enable comments on the post.

Comments are now enabled. I do have the comments checkbox checked on the custom post type, but when I create a new post the comments box is unchecked.

Hello,

I have tried it in a fresh WP instllation + the latest version of Toolset plugins, it works fine.
You can enable the custom post type comment by default.

See below test site:
Login URL:

1) Create a custom post type:
hidden link
In section "Sections to display when editing ", enable option "Comments"

2) Create a new custom post, it works fine, I can see the comment option is enabled by default, for example:
hidden link
