[Resolved] Display Toolset Form Edit Links (Former CRED Edit Links)

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem

How can I add a Link to "Edit a Post" that leads to a Toolset Form to edit the Post (Former Toolset CRED)?

Solution

To display a Toolset Edit Form you have several possible approaches.

Create the CRED Edit Form, after, you can insert either this Form directly into single Posts, or Content Templates, or even View Loops or Layouts, by using the "Toolset Forms" GUI or Form Cells
This will then display the actual form, applied to the current post or a post you pass in the ID attribute.

Or, you can insert a Link to the Toolset Edit Form, which is possible to do in Single Posts, Content Templates or also View loops and Layouts.

To do that, you need to create a Content Template or Layout where you repeat what I described above, and after you inserted the Form, using the "Toolset Forms" GUI, save the Content Template or Layout, but do not assign it to any content.

Then you head to the post you want the Edit Link to appear, or it's content template/layout, and insert the Toolset Edit Link from the "Fields and Views" GUI > Toolset Editing section, and choose the Content Template/Layout that holds the form.

This will now produce a Link to the Edit Form, which leads to the Form if clicked.

I am trying to: add the cred edit link to either a view or a content template

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: there isn't a page because nothing is working

I expected to see: I expect to see the edit link in the completed view

Instead, I got: when I click to open the edit link I get the first image. I never see the second image which I pulled from the documentation. Yes I looked at the documentation first. oh and this is my second request. I also deactivated ALL plugins except toolset to verify there weren't other conflict.

To display a CRED Edit Form you have several possible approaches.

I think you do not use Toolset Layouts, since you mention Content Templates and Views, I think we can omit that one possible approach and focus on what you can do with Toolset Views, Types and CRED.

1. I think you are familiar with how to create the CRED Edit Form:
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/creating-cred-forms/

2. After, you can insert either this Form directly into single Posts, or Content Templates, or even View Loops by using the "CRED Forms" GUI.
This will then display the actual form, applied to the current post or a post you pass in the ID attribute.

I added some screenshots of that as well

3. Or, you can insert a Link to the CRED Edit Form - which is what you try to do and requested help for, as I understand it.

This is again possible to do in Single Posts, Content Templates or also View loops.
To do that, you open the Fields and Views GUI, and find the CRED Editing section, and choose the Content Template that holds the form.

To do this, first you need to create a Content Template.
In this Content Template, you repeat what I described above in #2.
After you inserted the Form, using the "CRED Forms" GUI, save this Content Template, but do not assign it to any content.

Then, you head back to where you want to insert the Link to this Form (Single Post, Content Template that styles single posts, or View's Loops), and insert the link to the Form with the GUI "Fields and Views" as described in #3.

This works all fine, I tested this while writing this post, actually, as I always do, so to grant as well that I speak about the correct GUI names, and can add Screenshots and similar.

If this does not work on your end I will need to log in to your site and check what is wrong.

But from what I read, you did not create the Content Template yet, that holds this very form.

Thank you, I appreciate that you acknowledged I actually looked at your documentation.
However, I can not ACTUALLY do your steps. You see no matter which one of those steps I use to Insert the cred edit link I get the the 1st image, I NEVER see the second image.
So basically I feel you would need to actually go into the site and take a look. I literally created a test content template AND a test view with ONLY the intention of adding a cred edit link and I still cannot.

my point here is I am getting the image below no matter how I try to add the cred link. to be clear, I can find the cred link, it wont give me the option to add a link to one of my edit cred forms.

IF i am missing a step or an item int the process it is completely beyond me.

please provide the private format and I will gladly provide you with the data.

thank you
Lori

That's likely because you use the Views GUI instead of the CRED GUI to insert the initial CRED Edit FORM.

With "CRED Forms" you insert the form to the Content Template.
With "Fields and Views" you insert the CRED Edit Link to that form.

The private reply is enabled.
Please add the links to:
- Form
- View
- Content Template
- Front-end

Thanks!

Thanks.

This Form applies to the Post Type "Events".
The Form looks fine.

The Post Type "Events" looks OK as well.

The Content Template you chose to display the Form is empty right now.

As previously elaborated, and shown in our documentation, you need to click on "CRED Forms" here.

Then, choose the form you want to insert ("Edit Networking Event Ads" in this case).

Insert the ShortCode without any further modification, as shown in these screenshots:
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/cannot-add-the-cred-edit-link-to-anything/#post-616979

Save the Content Template.

In the View, you test with, in it's Loop HTML Section, which is empty right now click on "Fields and Views".
There, choose the CRED Edit Link and complete the pop-up form with the details required.

I have already done all steps for you.
You can see the results here:

I feel like we are NOT communicating.
the content template I showed you was as TEST because I can't get it to work with ANY of the other content templates, go to my template pick one.

If you think that the image below is success it isn't!!

I am showing you over and over what I get when I try to add the link, I do not know what more to tell you.

but here again I sit not getting any help.

again the image below is NOT success It If I got that as a result I would be sending in a ticket for not having the link I want.

after looking at what you produced and looking again at your documentation, it makes even less sense.
again you somewhere along the line changed how this process works, and for the worse.

my conclusion is that we cannot link an individual post to be edited by an edit content cred form. The concept of adding content templates to edit a cred form doesn't compute at all.

also I do not use toolset layouts because the conflict with avada despite the fact that the ONLY reason I have Avada is because it was recommended when I was researching your toolset layouts.

just one more layer of my frustrations.

I expected to see a list of my cred forms that are set to edit content and add a link to the view to the individual post's editing cred form. It looks like I have an unrealistic expectation despite that is exactly what I had before in my previous website.

again your documentation doesn't make sense.

Instead of going through the content template and the view I went through the page and saw (finally) the drop down. since it doesn't offer the edit cred forms or links to it, it basically doesn't do what you claim AND what you showed in as your result is absolutely NOT what I want. I want the link ONLY for the networking events list to be in the Networking events list post not every last one in each post. just UGH

more wasted time, I so wish I never started using your plugins. such a disappointment on so many levels.
unfortunately I am stuck and clearly unable to get the help I need.

after more trouble shooting I think I have it,
You guys made this soooooo much more difficult, adding at least 3 more steps to this process, IF you are going to change things may I suggest simplifying things. You did the exact same thing to maps, you added more steps and created huge issues and your documentation over all just plain sucks. It is soooo frustrating. some of us are business owners not website designers and developers we don't have time to continuously relearn how to create or NOW fix content using your plugin.

I now have 4 more images of how the ONE edit form for networking has broke the images on the bottom of the edit the post form's page. seriously these things have absolutely NOTHING to do with the editing form that is above it. now they are broken. you completely compounded this entire issue all because someone decided to make your process more complicated. Just UGH

here is the link to the edit post form page - take a look at the entire page notice an issue?

it really just isn't okay. it really isn't

Hello

If you are frustrated with how Toolset or Support works, please use this complaint form here:
https://toolset.com/need-help-toolset/

Please do not involve me in discussions related to how Toolset works or what you think of Toolset and our services.

I have done exactly as you requested and explained it as well with ScreenShots and the steps, in a friendly and respectful approach.

We can proceed this discussion with a Google Hangout if this could help to expedite the solution.
I can also invite our Support Team Leader for further attention.
https://toolset.com/toolset-support-policy/ask-support-video-call/

The Screenshot you show me is the View's Output.
It is a link to each single posts' CRED Edit Form, as you described your goal.

If you want this differently or with more/less details, we can discuss this in a new ticket.

The Content Template you shared now hold a CRED form and I show how you can add it to a new Content Template as well, that works just fine.

We can as well very well link individual posts to their CRED edit forms.
Either you can insert the Forms directly to the Posts Body (or the Content Template applied to them) using the "CRED Forms" GUI, or, you can link to those Forms, by inserting the Links as I show above.
For this last approach, you need to first create the respective Content Template with the CRED Form.

I expected to see a list of my cred forms that are set to edit content and add a link to the view to the individual post's editing cred form. It looks like I have an unrealistic expectation despite that is exactly what I had before in my previous website.

This is still there, as I show it, it's:
CRED Forms in the "CRED Forms GUI"
CRED Edit Links in the "Fields and Views GUI".

Instead of going through the content template and the view I went through the page and saw (finally) the drop down. since it doesn't offer the edit cred forms or links to it, it basically doesn't do what you claim AND what you showed in as your result is absolutely NOT what I want. I want the link ONLY for the networking events list to be in the Networking events list post not every last one in each post. just UGH

I do not understand completely.

You have requested here to add the CRED Edit Links to this View:
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/cannot-add-the-cred-edit-link-to-anything/#post-617046

I have done this, it's visible in the screenshot you shared here:
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/cannot-add-the-cred-edit-link-to-anything/#post-617051

I believe those links lead to the CRED Edit Form if you click them.

I see that in your last reply you state to have succeeded to see what I have done, and could apply it?

If so, for the issue you mention there, I have split a ticket for you, so you can receive dedicated support on that issue as well.
https://toolset.com/forums/topic/here-is-the-link-to-the-edit-post-form-page-take-a-look-at-the-entire-page-notice-an-issue/

Thank you for your suggestions and heads up, I will forward them.

I assume the issue initially reported is clear?

#617086

I have been using your plugins for a couple years now,
I am sorry if you don't appreciate me getting frustrated and if you feel You are not the appropriate person.
However, I don't feel it is necessary to constantly have things changed on us for the worse, and we need to constantly get help and have the stupid documentation thrown at us. Guess what we look at it. It doesn't always help.

I have spoke to 2 people and spent more than 3 days on this issue alone. I went in circles with this. I kept giving you what I saw and I kept getting the same content as in the documentation.
I had to reverse engineer what you did. I can't do that through the documentation. there is no way to.
now I still have issues. but I will figure it out myself.

by the way, In years that I have had to deal with tech support I have had very few that were truly willing to help and that actually helped so maybe I come at this in a less then stellar way but seriously go look at my first request on this. the person literally told me they saw the issue and then through the stupid documentation at me.. If he saw the issue then TELL me, don't make me go around in circles. a bit of advise on how to help your CUSTOMERS.
