I have a custom post type which is restricted to logged in users only.

The posts contain PDF reports which I want to restrict and prevent non-members from being able to access via the URL.

Can ToolSet Access be used to restrict access to files in the media gallery of a certain file type e.g., PDF and Excel files?

You can bring Media posts under Access control, but that will restrict access to the Media posts on the front end (aka the attachment pages), not to the URL to the file itself in the uploads directory.

There are a plethora of security plugins available and I expect there is one that does what you need, but I'm not familiar with the details to recommend one in particular, I'm afraid.

I've decided to apply a different solution.
